Any 9 day circular route suggestions from Tangiers?

Hi everyone,

We'll be a group of 4 on standard road tyres arriving in Tangiers in May. We have 9 whole driving days to get back to the ferry.
Up to now all my planning (for 2500-2700 Km) seems to reproduce the usual tourist destinations - maybe that's not necessarily a bad thing since my fellow travellers have not been to Morocco before.

However, maybe you have other suggestions for us ...?

Greetings,
Basmati

Well, what interests you? And how far do you want to drive in a day? Apart from the motorways, don't drive at night - it's the number one safety rule.

We have done that sort of short trip a couple of times. One was mountains and desert, the other was mountains plus coast. Assilha is a lovely first night stop. Charming, very Morocco, and easily accessible. ( We have enjoyed a week there in longer trips).

Hi Basmati:

Welcome to the forum!

There are so many interesting possibilities for a 9 day trip out of Tangiers. I honestly don't know where or how to begin to answer your question.

What you might want to do, to make your planning more effective (and more fun) is pick up a copy of the most recent Michelin National map for Morocco. This is Michelin Map 742. Be aware that a new version was released in 2018, don't accidentally buy an older version.

There are many ride reports here in the Morocco forum, and lots of articles that explain how the process of getting on and off the ferry, clearing customs, getting insurance, etc. works (it's a trouble-free process, no surprises).

You'll also find lots of information here about trip logistics - how to get money out of ATMs with your European or North American ATM card (easy to do), what not to bring with you (drones), unique Moroccan peculiarities (for example, online Google Maps won't work in Morocco), and stuff like that.

One of our forum members, Tim Cullis, maintains an excellent website called Morocco Knowledgebase, it is well worth a visit.

The roads in Morocco are generally in very good condition, I did a one-month tour there last year on my ST 1100 (Honda PanEuropean) - for sure not an 'off-road' bike - and had no troubles at all.

Michael
