Adventure tyre availability

I got a large piece of metal in the rear tyre of my 1190 on Thursday, on tarmac ironically. It's 50:50 whether the split will get bigger, it's about 2" long and deep but I think perhaps only through one ply. It did cause a tubeless leak but nothing visible inside the tyre. Spilt maybe slightly longer after last two days on pistes.

Bottom line is, does anyone know where I could find a 140 or 150 x 18 adventure tyre in this area? We're planning on heading on the piste towards Erfoud, then Mhamid and west. Here for another three weeks. I can get a Michelin or Motoz desert in an emergency, but they won't last me for that time and the ride home.

Did you find the tyre ? Where ? May useful information for other guys . Thanks

No not yet, I'm hoping mine will hold up. If I see one I'll have it and report back

I managed to make mine last, but my mate's wore out. He found there were many lightly used Michelin Deserts and similar available, certainly in Zagora, from passing rallys. Maybe this was a matter of catching things at the right time? But they were falling over themselves to sell them.

Wilderness Wheels in Ouarzazate sell Motoz tyres.
Otherwise Motoexpert Maroc in Casablanca is you best bet as they will ensure shipping the tyre within the country to where you are. They do most of the tyres, Michelin, Heidenau and other brands.

I'm also curious, I have TKC80's on my 1190 which are fairly worn since Spain. I'm in Agadir now, but I don't think they're going to last until Ghana where I will have new ones waiting. Anyone know anywhere South of Agadir or even in the next couple of countries where I could look for something?

I had to order mine from Rabat when I was in Dakhla. They took four days to arrive.
If not sure get them in Morocco before heading South.
I think everything gets worse and scarce as you go down South.
All the best.

Wouldn't you normally re-tire with fresh rubber in Spain ? ... before crossing to Maroc? Cheaper, easier ? Or pack a spare on rear rack?

Sounds like lots of used tires in Maroc, so no real worries, pick up something to make Ghana.

I had them new in Spain, but they have been wearing out quite quickly being in Morocco and it just makes me wonder how long they have in them, a good few thousand km left but it's a long way to Ghana

In my experience with TKC on the 1190, you'll get around 4000 miles from a rear. Probably too late now but a Mitas E-07 will give at least double, a K60 even more. Your best option now is probably to get a little used Michelin desert on, and maybe carry another as spare, if you're worried about making it to Ghana. I think you might only get 3000 out of a Desert? But that is only a guess!

I rode south through Algeria to Cape Town in 2010 and arranged my replacements halfway, which was Abuja.
