4 day trip for a Morocco rookie advice
 

Hi, I'm planning on quick visit to Morocco later this month (July), I'll be travelling solo, I'm not looking for any off roading...!

Anyone done anything similar recently that can offer advice on where to and what to see/where to stay?

As it will be my first trip I'm looking to get a feel for the place, I would be keen on finding accommodation that has some kind of secure parking if that is needed!!

4 days doesn't give you long but as a quick intro to the country not a bad start.

Anything you particularly want to see?

You could head down through the Middle Atlas, Fes, Azrou Midelt. Then Midelt to Rich before turnig west up through the High Atlas to Imichil and then onto Marrakech before taking the motorway back north.

That's around 24 hours travel time so 6 hours or so a day actually on the road. I'd make the last day on the motorway a long day as its a pretty average route scenery wise and then use the time to go slower in the more interesting places or to explore Marrakech a little.

July will be fecking hot so you should plan on extremely early departures and stopping for the night around 2pm. Get a hotel with pool, have a swim and a siesta then wake around 7pm to enjoy the evening.

I second what Tim said, in July, Morocco will be hotter than Hell's waiting room. You might actually want to reconsider making the trip at this time, unless you are based in Southern Spain and used to extremely high temperatures.

So far as security is concerned, I toured Morocco for a month a couple of years ago with my ST 1100 and had no concerns at all about security of the bike. If you stay at reasonable hotels, B&Bs, or guest houses (and there is no reason not to pick decent places to stay, the prices in Morocco are very low), you will always be able to find a secure place to park the bike for the night.

As for what to do and what to see - I suggest you head for 'high ground'. Not only is it scenic, it will be cooler at higher altitudes. There is a mountain ridge in the north-east area of the country along the Mediterranean, not far from where you get off the ferry (you could ride into it in about 2 to 3 hours) that I found interesting.
