3rd party vehicle insurance in Morocco - what constitutes a camping car?
 

Hi,

I have a quick question for those that have traveled to Morocco in their 4x4's and purchased 3rd party insurance on arrival. I see that the price differs considerably for a) cars/bikes and b) camping cars.

We have a Landy with a roof tent. Is this a car or a camping car for these purposes? (I'm hoping a camping car means a motorhome...)

As I responded to your post on Lonely Planet, camping car is French for motorhome.

It's a car.
 

You'll have no problems. The insurance guys are used to 4x4's with rooftents and you'll be classed as a car. Make sure you've filled in the genre box on your D16ter as "vehicle de tourisme" and not "camping car".

The only problem I've experienced at the insurance office is with Land Rovers with no rear side windows - 90s or 110s. The boys have tried it on and insisted that they were vans - fourgonettes - and tried to charge the commercial insurance rate which is much more. If that's the case stand your ground and point out the "private light goods" bit on your V5.

Car vs Van at the insurance office
 

Show the insurance guys your V5 (carte gris for our continental chums). If it says more than 2 seats, you're sorted!
