Selling/Parking a bike in Saudi Arabia

I'm trying to investigate all options available for my next trip and just got aware Saudi Arabia is not asking for a CDP.

Has anybody ever parked, sold or left behind the bike in Saudi Arabia (or Middle East)?

The area seems to be a nice place to have a bike (especially over winter) or start an Africa tour.

Greetings,
Wauschi

Not sure what you mean by cdp, did you mean carnet?

There are places where you can park in saudi.

--> yes.

ibidu1, if an overlander parks the vehicle, it's often for a pretty long time even without the owner in the country, you know...

Let me revive that question, is it possible to store a bike in Saudi, Koweit, EAU etc.. for a long period of time, like a year for example, without problem?

Think its still too early to answer this question through experience. SA started in 2019 offering a 90 days visa evisa and hosted the Dakar Rallye 2020.

I read of german travellers who crossed into SA in spring of 2020 with an overlanding vehicle. Caused by covid they were told by officials to leave SA after being there for a couple of weeks and so a questions of longtime parking in SA never came up. They arranged a longtime parking in Oman for their camper. Maybe longtime parking in Oman or UAE could be an option for you?

Thanks for answering.
Yes maybe it would be possible in EAU, or other GCC country, problem is getting the information, would have to come from somebody living there... As for Oman it is definitely not possible as they require a carnet de passage to enter.

The question really is two-fold. How long can a car be temporarily imported for and will having temporarily imported a car stop you from leaving without it?

For both questions, you could track down people who have visited Saudi Arabia and ask how long they were granted temporary import and how this information was recorded.

Somebody living in Saudi Arabia is unlikely to be able to help, as residents are almost certainly not allowed to temporarily import and use vehicles.

I highly doubt you can leave a car there for a year.

you are right. Everything depends on their control at the border.
In Europe there is the same limit of 6 months maximum stay for a foreign vehicle but as they don't register them entering or leaving the EU, I saw dozens and dozens of bikes in Germany for example, where people leave their bikes there for years, and come back once a year for a little trip of 2 weeks or a month. All this because they don't give you a TIP. All other countries I have been issue a TIP, sometimes stamped in your passport, so it is impossible in that case to leave your bike behind.
Maybe I should ask if all the GCC countries issue a TIP when you enter. TIP: temporary Import Permit.
