Motorbikes in Iran

Hi
Im thinking of travelling around Iran early next year on a motorbike but I have heard that you can not travel between cities on bikes, has anyone had any trouble travelling between cities?
Thanks Trace:scooter:

Hi, that's rubbish, never heard that before. You just need a visa to get in though I only got a transit visa so only had about 2 weeks to get through it.

Also you have to bring all your cash with you as your cards won't work (thanks to the sanctions). People there are very friendly and helpful too.

Iran is great

I concur with MikeS. :thumbup1:

Travelling in Iran on a motorcycle is excellent! No problems at all.

If you do go towards Pakistan then after Bam you should expect police (actually more like boy scouts) escorts.

The only other thing is that Iran requires a CDP. If you don't have one expect to be refused entry.

Do take extra cash in either USD or EUR.

Petrol is very cheap.

People are very friendly.

We have our travel journal entry here if you want to read a bit about our experience.

confusion re: Iran

Hi Turbo Charger and MikeS
I cannot get over how different the experiences of different people are. I am following a South African guy who has an Iranian visa, but the AA would not endorse a carnet for Iran. This is within the last few days. I have also phoned the Johannesburg branch of the AA and they say this has been their policy for a long time. How did you guys get a carnet for Iran??? We are going up Africa in Jan 2012 and out east, and are really needing to get clarity.

I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Hi Chiromal

Dunno, I just gave them a list of countries I was going to ride through. I used RAC in UK, I'm British but was riding an Aussie bike from Australia. Each country is different though I'd have thought it was visas rather than carnets that would cause people problems.

Hi Tracey and friends,

I've recently ( August ) passed through Iran from Pakistan and other than the security issue in Balochistan it's all-good. You are free-range outside of Balochistan so yes, you are free to make your own mistakes !.You must have the Carnet though.

Take Eu or US cash to change, everything else was beaut.

Cheers and enjoy.

Thanks heaps

Hi
Thanks all for clearing up the motorbike issue, I was recently in Iran and like all of you had the most amazing time, a couple of my friends and I are thinking of now returning and making a documentary on Iran because we have found that most people believe it is a dangerous place and it just gets thought of as 'The Middle East', just sent away our idea to a production company, will keep you all inform
