getting a ferry to take us and two landrovers from Iran to India?
 

Hello guys firstly awesome site! I love it the reply's are amazing detailed and the best we have found by far on the nett...

ok so:

we are hoping you can help us find a service which will transport myself, three friends and our two land rovers from Bander Abbas to any India shipping port.


We are about to drive from Europe to India with two back up land rovers and have decided to go around Pakistan by sea.... as you probably know it is not easy for
us to find a boat which will take both us and our vehicles together to
India..... so we where wondering if you can suggest
ways to find the information we need.... is it possible to go by boat to
UEA then to India?

We are doing the drive for Charity and adventure .....
we also going to be followed by BBC
radio 6 music station on our journey by being called on route by the DJ George Lamb once a week

As far as I know it's still not possible. There are no passenger ferries. You might catch a ride on a commercial ship but it's generally not worth their while to deal with the administration (unless you are willing to pay LOTS of money) but it is technically possible. Dhows are not possible. They have special visa status to nip around the Gulf and south Asia and tourists are not allowed to travel on dhows "for their own protection". Of course Michael Palin managed it - if you could get BBC to help you with the UAE Govt (can't see the Iranians cooperating) you might be a chance. Of course Palin probably also had a full-time producer/organiser - make no mistake, getting permission will take HEAPS of effort (and time). I hope things have changed and I'm wrong but it looks like Pakistan is unavoidable unless you fly.
