Fuel and oil in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan

Planning to go on a Afrika Twin to the ME
Question is
Do I need a larger tank 42l instead of 22?
How is the fuel and how easy to get
Can you get synthetic oil in the region?

Any comments welcome

In 2001 I travelled in Syria, arriving from Turkey; and in 2002 I travelleld in Jordan and Syria, arriving from Egypt, along a "round the mediterranean" trip.

No problems at all. You can find petrol anywere. I have a BMW GS 1100 with a 25 liters tank and I had no problems.

People are great everywhere, especially in Syria. Jordan is more western oriented, Syria is more naturally arabic.

In Jordan the ladscapes are more beautiful than in Syria; on the other hand, in Syria the cities (especially Aleppo and Damascus) are much better than in Jordan. Both of the countries have wonderful archeological sites.

Pay attention of the syrian driver, they are quite crazy...

If you decide to go to Egypt, remember the ferry boat to Nuweiba across the Red Sea is a MUST, as with a Israeli visa (or with a stamp of any jordan or egyptian border to Israel) neither Syria nor Lybia allow you to enter, and you are stucked!

Have a nice trip
Pietro

Bona Sera Pietro,

Thanks for the reply!

I know about the "stuck part" I visited the ME more than once but never on a motorcycle.

I see you live in Lecco, I visited Lecco a few months ago. Very nice place and a great place to drive. The Italian however also drive as if they are stupido!

Especially the Simplonpass was really great, except for the fact it was really cold and snowing on the Swiss side of the mountain.

Italian people are quite nice in general. Verbania was also very beautifull

Marco,
No problem getting fuel so no real need to fit a bigger tank. Not sure about fully synthetic oil though, you might have to search around to get some.

Jordan no probs for synthetic oil and high octane fuel. Its a magic place to travel - cant recommend it highly enough. Drivers are fairly quick, a bit like Greece/Italy, not suicical lunatics like Egypt. More expensive than Syria generally - Lebanon is also quite pricey.
