Ferries from Iran to Dubai/UAE

Hi,

I'm currently in India with my bike and am thinking about the possibility of travelling from India at the end of Feb 2007/start of March 2007 overland to Iran from there taking a ferry to Dubai. I've done a bit of looking around on HU and more generally on the web, but have not really found anything which gives a decent answer to the thorny question of whether there is a ferry and where it goes from! There seem to be mentions all over the place of lots of different ferries/ships, but information on these is inconsistent and so I'm a bit in the dark. If anyone has any more upto date information or could perhaps point me in the right direction that would be great.

I've got a carnet with plenty of validity left on it and so there's no issue from that perspective with me getting into Iran, Pakistan (and Dubai if a carnet is needed for there - any information on that gratefully received too!).

Thanks,

Peter

A bunch of Germans who took the ferry a few days ago inform me that it sails every Sa and Mo from Bandar Abbas to Dubai (could be Sharjah, but that hardly makes a difference).

I'll be on it in about 1 or two weeks time.

Bandar Lengeh too

You can see from the link that John provided that Bandar Abbas is not the only option. If you arrive in Bandar Abbas on the ‘wrong day’ explore the possibility of traveling south-west down the coast to Bandar Lengeh. It’s a shorter crossing for the sea-sick too.

It’s a pretty small port and was friendly to deal with when I used it; no undue time-wasting and no customs hassles of any kind.

We did Dubai, Port Rashid, to Bandar Lengeh one-way only.

The Valfajre-8 web site specifically mentions motorcycles so that seems fairly positive:
“Motorbike, Car, Vehicles and cargo transport in Persian Gulf
The Motor Bike, vehicle and cargo transportation is subject to issuance transfer documentations at the port of departure. Usually you need to show up one day before the departure date at the port to get the needed paperwork done.
the average transfer fare for the Motorbike and car is 100 and 250$ respectively.
supposedly you can carry 50 kilograms luggage fee of charge but extra weights will be charged as 2 Dirhmas per extra kilo. Before traveling to Iran, you need to get Carne de passage for your car. this can be done in the country where your car is originally registered.

if you are traveling to Iran from Dubai, Sharjeh, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, or Dammam , please contact the local agents in those countries (mentioned in the follow) to take care of the transport related issues. but if you are in Iran and wanted to travel abroad , we will take care of related paperwork.”

I can’t see why it would be passengers only from any specific port but there’s only one sure way to find out…:wink3:
