Camping In Israel, Jordan area
Is it safe to camp in these areas?

We found it safe in Jordan, and we wild-camped all the time :)

Ditto to what Margus said for Jordan. The nomads and desert dwellers have been camping in these areas for centuries, it was one of those places where we felt that no one would look twice at someone camping. Make a point of staying at/near Wadi Rum if you get the chance, it really is a magical spot.

Camping in the Israel and Jordan
As for Israel. camping is very easy almost all around. you can get all degrees of camping. free seashores. desret sleeping camps etc. it is very safe like most modern west countries. Ive been to Jordan few times. You can sleep in camping sites in the south quite safely. they have this tourist police that use to be in such places, Im not sure about the center and north part. anyway taking a room for a night while crossing Jordan is very cheep.

Nearl ALL Israelis carrying rifles, Uzis or at least pistols. I've seen even Talmud reading rabbis carry guns. It is normal there.

As we all know, everyone in NZ has Maori tattoo on their faces. In the US averyone got a big car and lives near a MecDrive. In France everyone eats frogs for breakfast. In Tourky all weman go with veil, and all men roam with Shubriya (kind of knife) under their belt while they ride their donkeys on the street of Istanbul. Samy have you visited Israel? It reminds me that I've been to Switzerlad few times. THE peaceful country in the world. in the airports I saw many men carying rifels and a full metal jackets in full combat uniform. so I asked in the information what this is all about. She said that in Switzerland reserve soldiars carry their combat gear home after a drill, and yet it does not make Switzerland a frigthning place to roam arownd.
As for the Negev in Israel, it can really be cold in sumer nights. the great thing about Israel is that one can sky in the morning on Mt. Hermon in the north, and dive in the Red Sea with tropical fish in the afternoon. you can see banana trees in Jordan valley, and cherry frueit on the Galily mountains nearby. and yes one can not be blind to the political situation in the area. we do have this conflict with the Plastinians and it reflects on security actions that are taken to watch tourist sites and other. but not everyone carries a gun. Sorry, Yoni, but you can't compare the Swiss example you mention to what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians.

Is amazing (funny?) how a simple information request about to camp in Israel (Jordan area means the Jordan River area maybe?) turns in a political argue. I bet what Yoni is telling has nothing to do with compare the Swiss example to what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians. I guess he means what Israelis do with the action to carries weapons. I come from a Jewish family (I'm atheist) And I been in Israel ('90) travelling and staying there for many mouths, I have my owns complains about Israel and the Israelis, as I have it also about Argentineans and I'm very proud to be Argentinian. But in any case I don't believe this is the right place to get on a discussion like that. Not on the HUBB, please!!! JulieBuny: take Yoni advises, I know he always help travellers visiting Israel. You are complaining about seeing guns in the airport. I am talking abut questioning, all stuff is sctreening at the airport. My plane was late more than 1 hour because of this questioning sessions. The lady who questioning me said they screened my small hair drier and travel iron and have doubts about them. So will keep them and have a close look. I shouted them by throwing this stuff: send them to your mother to use them afterwards... Destiny, I have been to Switzerland 3 times. Not disturbed or questioned at all. Ok, I accept the situation and the sensitivity there. I only talk about it. Shouldn't I talk about it? Shouldn't I tell what I lived? By the way I don't have a bike indeed and in wrong forum here. I have a donkey with 2 legs. So I write here... :welcome: If it is an easy country I really would like to visit Israel every month. I love the country. But it is difficult. I have to change my passport with a new one which there is no Arabic country visa. I have to accept spending hours and hours in airport or border. Returning from checkpoint from some Palestine cities closed by Israel military... I am sure there will be no peace there in this conditions what I have seen with my own eyes... Anyhow, I love that country... |
Can someone tell me what is wrong with :
1. Riding donkey in the streets of Istanbul? 2. Women has veils because of their beliefs? I am graduated from primary school in 9 years and difficult to me understand that. :confused1: Thanks all |

Hi all I'm really sorry for the mess
Samy. I apologize to you from the bottom of my heart. I've been to Turkey 7 times and found a great place and wonderful people despite the inner political peoblems that reflected on my visit in 1973 (a carefew in Istanbul by the military . many checkposts in eastern Turky and so on) I had a great time and love your place (I'm with the OMM club too). All I ment by saying those stupid words about women and men was to show how rediculose things can be if we use shallow knowledge of a place's culture. I am sorry if it was misuderstood. I respect you and your culture and lifestyle i have more than one palestinian freind that ride donkeys and their wives use a veil, and noting is wrong with that. But again, not all Israelis go with guns.
As JAVKAP said the question was answerd and i hope it was understood. Ho, and as form Mr Caminando: Your opinion on my country is well known in this forum so you can stay in your corner giving us all a great prespective point on the pluralism of this great site. Lets go riding Yoni |
