Bringing motorcycle to Cyprus
 

Hello,
I'm currently in southern Turkey and plan to go to Cyprus from here. Afaik that's the only ferry connection left to the island. So the route will be Turkey, TRNC, Republic of Cyprus, TRNC and back to Turkey.

I do have a German passport and my motorcycle a German registration.

I tried finding updated information about my question and write to the TRNC customs office and the German embassy.

Can I bring my motorcycle there without paying any import tax? Can I use my German registration just like I do everywhere else? Can't I find any information because I'm overthinking this? How about an insurance for the TRNC? I believe it's like in Kosovo.

I did this a year ago. You can buy everything you need at the border. TIP + Insurance was cheap. Finnish passport.

Thank you. I want to write down my experiences since I've arrived in Cyprus some days ago:

1. Leaving Turkey via Taşucu: I showed my ferry ticket to enter the port, then there's a queue of cars and motorcycles where my license plate was scanned. After that I was in a waiting area with my motorcycle right in front of the ramp to the ship. A guy checked my ticket and told me I'm missing a stamp. I needed to walk into the border control hall where I showed my passport and ticket to officially leave Turkey, then I had to show my motorcycle ticket and papers where I got clearance for it. This was the last step and where I got my stamp on the ticket for the motorcycle.

2. On the ferry: the official time of departure was 23:30, we left 3h later. I fortunately booked a private cabin, it was 775 TL.

3. Arrival in the northern part: first I had to pay 70 TL import tax, then 200 TL insurance for 30 days. The daily price goes down significantly for a longer duration. After that I went to the passport control where I got my stamp, I asked them to stamp a paper so I'll get no issues later on. After that there's a booth at the port exit where I showed my papers to get an import paper for my motorcycle. I need to return it at the end of my stay. Then some luggage control and a passport control by the police and I was good to go.

4. Crossing of the green line: entering the island via the northern part is seen as illegal by the government of the Republic of Cyprus. There's an exemption for EU citizens so that I can enter with my German ID card, but I think passport works fine too, but I'm not sure whether the stamp would cause problems. I got my accommodation in the southern part, so I crossed the green line multiple times already, with and without motorcycle.
