'Hardcore' overlanding

I often hear of trips taken and the word hardcore used, when I think of 'hardcore' I think of the Mondo enduro and Terra circa trips, even Lois Pryce riding through The americas and Africa, even Annette Pearson and Tiffany Coates doing big trips 'solo'.
Well, I often go into charity shops to see what travel books they have and one caught my eye, titled 'Just a little run around the world' by Rosie Swale Pope, and what an achievement it was, the lady is no youngster and endured temperatures of -30C to -50C and in her tent one night had a reading of -62C!, this lady run or walked ALL the way around the world through Siberia, Alaska and Canada in winter. I know we are predominately motorcycle and 4x4 orientated, but this lady is well and truely 'Hardcore' and her book is well worth a read.

Hi Kimandmatt, I see from your profile you are off on a RTW in April 2010, any details to share?

kimandmatt 29 Nov 2009 13:12

Hi Dave,

We are indeed heading of RTW next year, we'll be leaving on the 26th April, hopping across the channel for a tour of Western Europe before heading to a wedding in Finland, then down through eastern europe to Greece and Italy and catching the ferry to Tunis, following the east Africa route all the way to Cape Town. From there it looks like we'll be shipping to India fot a tour then through SE Asia before island hopping our way south towards Darwin, Australia. We should be pretty skint by then so will work there until we have enough cash to ship to the States for a trip south towards TDF, then finish by going north into Brazil til the money runs out.

We have a couple of DR650SE's to carry us round and will be camping wherever possible as money is tight.

Are you planning anything for next year?

Matt
