LR Series specialist in south west UK wanted

Hello,

after a close-to-nut´n´bolt-DIY-repair I put nearly 20.000km on my Series 2a LWB Diesel. Before setting off again for longer it deserves a decent service which I´d like to be done by some true expert for leaf sprung Land Rover. I´m looking for a true mechanic, not a so called classic car restorer.

Does anyone know of a reliable independent workshop along the route Dover - Plymouth (or little further up the west coast) where I could send in my Landy for a reasonably priced service & spa while I´m kitesurfing at some nearby wavespots?

Any info on professional Series nerds for the big service in the south west is highly appreciated.

Kind regards.
T

Try these guys:-

Land Rover Repairs, Servicing, Spares & Restoration in Hampshire

Recommended by an old mate of mine.

Great tip. Thank you, Pongo

I´ll mail them for a quotation and if it´s possible to have a look over their shoulders - or offering a hand - while they´re servicing my car. I just need to know a few more bits about maintaining it correctly to feel absolutely confident to ride it everywhere. Just following the green bible brought me to some nice places, but also to some head scratching.

Their link list of shops where they outsource jobs for gearboxes, axles, electrics and diesel injectors is pretty helpful.

Anyone else? Just to compare the £/hrs.

Cheers

Dont expect to be looking over shoulders anywhere in UK much , as Health and safety doesnt allow in most places , due insurance risks etc.
Dont place too much faith in quotes , unless you are giving them a written itemised list .

Also get a quote from Andy at AL services in Poole:

My regular garage is quiet happy to let me wonder around when they are working on the cars.

I also understand Overland Cruisers are happy to let customers work with them on their vehicles.

@Gipper
found your recommendation for this workshop in another thread here already. Looks like they do handle everything with mud on it. Very helpful. Thanxalot.

@TheWarden
Overland Cruisers - near Hereford? - seems a little bit off my track. But might be considered, if the wind will blow me further north.

@Tacr2man
Sure, these regulations apply all over Europe. At least i will give it a try by crawling out of that leafer and asking for a proper spine alignment first - with a smile. That always helps.
On quotations: I´ve got a detailed list, including the big 24.000mls service which some workshops offer for a fixed price, i.e. Glencoyne for £299.

At the end of the day, everything in live can be negotiated and I´m not keen to pay +100£ just for pulling the radiator and wings of for a front pulley and steering box sealing. I´d do that - hold my beer - on the parking lot before I enter the workshop.

Good tips, Sirs, thank you very much.

Anyone else around Whitesand Bay/Land´s End, Hayle or Newquay?

Sorry I was :offtopic: and pointing out to Tacr2man that some garages will let you poke abut/help/get in the way :)

Devon 4x4 would be another option https://www.devon4x4.com/

@TheWarden
No, you weren´t OT, actually very helpful and pretty well informed. Sorry for not replying thankfully enough. Even Devon4x4 made it somehow in my parts source link list some day earlier. They´re exactly in the region I´d like to browse around. Good tip, thank u.
