HJ75 Exhaust options

Hi guys,

After all the great feed back on my last problem, I thought I’ll throw this idea out there and see …

I’ll be needing a new exhaust, rather than replace the original with an expensive Toyota part, I would look to the aftermarket. I found a rather nice side exhaust for a staggering €600 .. it got me thinking, can I not find a more popular mark and modify it… something around 4ltr diesel …

Or does anyone know a site where you can choose by specification rather than model / make of vehicle..

Hi Matt,

I've fitted that exhaust to my 78 series. It's very well made but expensive.

And it's very noisy! Too noisy if you're RHD and like the window open!

Happy trails,

Jojo

Hi Matt,
I was very pleasently suprised by the one i got from Milner Offroad (just don't even think about buying their bearings!).
I don't think they do anything for your Troopie, but the one for my 60 was just made up of bits from Bosal.
I'm pretty sure, if you weld or know a friendly welder, you could copy your original in bits from Bosal (or similar, this isn't a sales pitch!) and make a quality exhaust for less than any other solution i can think of.

Happy travels
Sam

Hi JOJO,

Then I should be worried, I think you'll have the turbo'd engine which should make it quieter, (have you thought about using a Decibel Insert ? www.jetex.co.uk)...

On my older HJ the exhaust is on the passenger side and maybe I’ll bring the pipe a little further back, +/- 10cms behind the door line...

I would love to know the length and diameter of the silencer, it would really help me with getting the ball rolling on this project !!

Kindest regards
Matt

Hi Matt,

If i remember correctly you have a right hand drive HJ75 form Oz! That engine has the manifold on the left hand side of the engine (mirrored image of the HZJ75) That exhaust is for the HZJ but you may be able to modify it, by cutting and mirroring the inlet and outlet connections of the muffler and mirror the connection bracket too. The pipe is quite noisy though on a non turbo engine.
And another thing is that it hangs below the chasis making it volnurable against impact when you navigate rocky tracks.

There are several brands see Tourfactory (Germany) too.

Cheers,
Noel

A big thanks for the feed back, especially jojo for climbing under his truck… Indeed my truck is a older import with the exhaust on the left so a “off the shelf” option won’t really work, but having spoken with Jetex.co.uk I can buy all I need for €185 delivered. I can either bolt it together or weld the joints and being a self build I can choose the length and tail pipe exit point. If it proves to be too noisy I can add a restrictor.

I’ll keep you posted how I get on.

Cheers
Matt
