Side mounted fuel tanks

Does anyone know if the side mounted fuel tanks that are on the 660 rallye are available for the Adventure R.

I've just had some Acerbis sidetanks fitted to my 2002 LC4. I believe (but not sure) they're the same ones fitted to the KTM rallye bikes around 1992-1993. They aren't a perfect fit and required numerous bits of bracketry to be made up.

The easiest ones to fit are those from a purple (1995-1996) or orange (1997) KTM Rallye. There's an article detailing this at http://www.adventure-enduro.de/motor...-hecktanks.htm
You may need a slimmer silencer than standard to allow clearance.

If you want to fit the tanks from a 1999-2000 blue and orange rallye bike, then you'll need a different subframe and low level rallye pipe.

You'll almost certainly need to do the same to fit the tanks from a 2001-2003 rallye, that's if the new subframe will even fit your Adventure.

Do you really need them? The standard Adventure tank gives a great range as it is.

I'm just exploring options at the moment. I've recently completed a full lap of Australia on an XTZ660 running an auxillary fuel tank at the rear. All up about 28 litres. But even with that I was a bit limited, especially when it gets really hot. Ideally I would feel more comfortable with about 35 lites on board, some dessert tracks are a bit unreliable for fuel. I sold the XTZ (one too many bikes) but I'm now planning a more adventurous trip taking in more dessert, and the KTM looks a good thing for that.

Cheers
