LC8 with TKC80

Hello all,

I would like to know if someone has experienced problems with rear tyre TKC80 in the LC8. (pic here). Continental had accepted my complaint and gave me another tyre. But the same happened. And with the second one I'm absolutely sure I didn't go faster than the tyre limit (in this case was an R what means 170 km/h).

I’ve often used the same tyre model in my previous bike, an Africa Twin, without incidents. To be precise the 17’’ and 18’’ tyres have slightly different design, can be an explanation.

Thanks for your contributions.

Regards,

Luis Lourenco

Luis,
I have used a set of TKC 80's to 5000 KM mostly 2-up and luggage, mixed dirt/pavement 20/80% approx. No problems! I never took them in rocks or ledges, but did experience your patterned look on Karoos on the 950. There is a lot of rear wheel horsepower with these bikes. I used the 140 rear however and could not tell If you had a 140 or the 150( I think they make a 150 radial??) I had used them on a GS ADV as supplied and I too found the compound to be slightly different with 17 vs.18, and 19 vs. 21. Or I should say to my unprofessional mind.
Allen.

Hello Allen,

Thanks for your answer. Please follow the thread on advrider, with some other contributions.

I've used a 140, no 150 available for now for 18'' wheels. The rubber pattern is really different from 18'' to 17''.

Thanks for the info about Karoos... I was thinking to try it... not anymore!

Regards,
Luis

Hi Ian,
the only other biker I met on the way to Dakar was this bloke dressed in pink, orange and purple... who appeared in my mirror, raced past me on that long bit of tarmac south of Dahkla, then stopped in front of me and waved me down for a chat !

AND,

it was a bloke on an LC8 doing Paris to Dakar in four days at 100mph !... and then back again. So he was doing the whole trip as a nine day return. All I can say is that the LC8 is very very fast compared to the LC4 !

I rode the trans am trail a couple of years back with a friend riding a 640 Adv, He had MT21's on the back and he rode pretty aggresively. Two sets of tyres had the knobbles ripped off.

if you look at the lower left picture you can see what I mean.

Bearing in mind the power difference between the bikes it comes as no suprise that the 950 rips all the 'nobs off!!!!!
