Husqvarna 701 luggage?

Hi all

I have a 2019 701 enduro and need to kit it out with luggage for 6 weeks on the TET.

Am thinking i’ll need:
- rear rack
- tail pack
- pannier frames
- pannier bags

Keen to hear other’s experiences, good or bad.

I’ve also ended up in A&E burning my forearm on the standard exhaust which doesn’t bode well for bags in this area. Anyone sorted a heat shield or similar?

Cheers
Andy

I have the rather similar KTM 690R Enduro and stuck a Wings exhaust on, not because I wanted more noise but because the standard exhaust with its in-built CAT gets so dangerously hot.

I use Metal Mule aluminium panniers on the 690 but it sounds like you prefer soft luggage.

On my 790 I have Bumot gear which I really like and they do similar for the 701.

Thanks Tim, really helpful.

My forearm still bears testimony to the heat issue, i’ll check out the wings option - sounds good. What’s the mot position - is it ok to fit an exhaust without a cat?

I like Bumot too - had them on a S10 I had (pretty sure the photo is still on their website) and transferred them onto the Tiger XCx that replaced it, which I use for paved European trips.

But you are right, i think i would prefer soft bags over frames for the Husky. Had an off in deep sand a few years back with a loaded bike in the absolute middle of nowhere (Zimbabwe) and tangled my leg in the soft panniers. Pretty sure it would have ended badly with metal ones and hard to get past that in my mind for off road stuff.

Looked at the link now - didn’t realise they did soft bags too. [emoji106]

I really like the look of the Lone Rider bags: they’re a semi-soft bag that are lockable, both too the bike and the bag itself - best of both worlds.
Cons are that they are not as light as other soft bags and expensive.

My wife is going for giant loop RTW panniers - they are big but very light, Brett Tkacs uses them in South Africa on a KTM. She likes the idea of panniers big enough to take all her gear so no bag on the back seat - keeps the weight low.

Another 790 rider here :) I've got the KTM topbox and pannier frames (branded Touratech) and very happy with the quality. The top box is big enough to get a helmet in but not so big it's cumbersome. And for long trips it's handy to have a lockable hard box for valuables.

On the side I'm running Kriega OS-22 and -32 bags. That's an asymmetric configuration because the frames are asymmetric and doing it that way the luggage works out almost exactly equal width both sides. Soft bags are generally considered better for travel since they don't get smashed up if the bike falls on them, and you're less likely to injure your leg if you get it caught between them/the bike and the ground.

I'm running an Arrow slip-on (with stock cat mid pipe) but you can use any rear pipe.

I have been very happy with my pannier racks from Andrew at https://vanaschemotorsports.com/coll...racks-husq-701

I've done 30000km mostly loaded often on very rough terrain and other than some fading paint they are still in excellent condition.

I used the Perun trail rack and extension https://www.perunmoto.com/collection...1-luggage-rack

The fit and finish is excellent and they are designed to fit Andrew's racks.

AS soft bags easily tie to this rack setup and I would buy the same gear again.

I replaced the stock can with a Wings unit and the heat issues are solved. https://wings-exhausts.com/exhausts-...u/701-e-sm-eu/

HTH and have a great trip

I ride with enduristan monsoon:
https://enduristan.co.uk
and
a rack from: https://www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/

That fits for me - and the rest of the money, I spent on my trips. :punk:
P.S. Enduristan tank bag is really waterproof without a cover and works for years.
