Anyone know of any rear tanks for sale anywhere?
 

I'm looking for a set of rear tanks and a large bash plate for an '03 Adventure. If anyone knows the whereabouts of either item that even 'might' be for sale please drop me a mail....

We've talked about this before, but I think Ernie at Overland Solutions has / had some rear rally tanks for KTM... Dave Lambeth haad a pair hanging up in his workshop last time I was there as well.

Susan (email me and I'll give you her email address) has a KTM / Sommmer rally bashplate with tool boxes that maybe for sale (but they cost £400 new so it won't be cheap.

You could just get some ali tanks made...

I had some but sold but I do know that however you look at it, and I tried it all sorts of ways, it'll cost a fair bit !

Oh, another thought. I know somebody who has some custom made, tailore fitted, ali fuel tanks that fit inside Touratech ali panniers. They were made by Ernie, but I think they are for sale. They hold about 16litres in total and you just slip them into the panniers. Susan's again.

What kind of budget are you on ?

I sold Ernie a spare pair last year - he might still have them

In Chris Scotts' AMH, on page 52, there is a photo of a KTM 640 (bottom left hand side of page) with a pair of side tanks on the back. Are those what you are describing in this thread? Either way, does anyone know who manufactures them/where they are available for (and again prices if different from above). I assume it would be okay to chuck some soft luggage over them too?

Chris I recall seeing an ad in Trail Bike Mag for rear tanks for KTM , not sure if specifically for adventure but sure you could make them fit

AFAIK there's several different options. The ones I've seen used are:

1. The tanks from 1998ish-2000 rally LC4.
2. Those from the 1995ish purple or all orange rally LC4.
3. Those in the picture I think you're referring to in AMH - fitted to very early rally LC4s (1992?).

Option 1 was available as KTM parts. Don't know if this is still the case. I've seen option 1 fitted - problematic as the subframe needs substantial rework and a low slung pipe is required.

I've certainly seen option 3 as I think the picture you're referring to is of my bike. If so, fitting the tanks required some alteration to the subframe and rerouting of the exhaust pipe. At least a slim SXC silencer was required. These tanks may have been a KTM part but the tanks were made by Acerbis. They were later used by Simon.

The most popular seems to be option 2 as, again AFAIK, this option requires the least modification. See http://www.ktm-adventure.ch/22umbaut...zin/index.html for some ideas.

As for baggage, I used a pair of Ortlieb throwovers around the tanks. Worked OK for me.

Would I fit side tanks again? Only if I was doing some serious desert riding.

If you want to buy some side tanks you might take a look at some of the German speaking KTM forums.

Hi Dave,

Ernie at OS will be able to sort you out, he is currently finishing the prep of my bike and has mentioned to me in past discussions that he has agreed some plans to provide rear tanks in the future. He is also fabricating a bash plate which might be of interest to you, all depends on how much you wish to spend and your requirements. Won't be cheap but probably the best around.
