950 Getting hot
Anyone out there had any experiences with fitting an oil cooler on a 950 ?
As mine is getting so hot and very quickly, and it's not even summer yet ! I do understand they run hot but getting this hot so soon ! Cheers Andy ------------------ |
Theres's been a few mentions of hot running 950's on the ADV-Riders site. One guy found that his new, as in just collected from the Dealer, 950 was 300cc low on coolant.
Worth checking both the site & coolant level. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35539 Steve |
Hi Andy,
i´ve seen photos of a cooler for a 950 where you move the horn somewhere else but im buggered if i can find it now. i thought it was on Sommer´s site but it wasn´t - which is no help at all. ------------------ Jerome http://www.fowb.co.uk |
Touratech has the "KTM LC8 oil cooler retrofit kit", part number 370-0190. It is in the 2004/2005 catalog, page 340. I hope it helps.

I don't know if your bike is stock but they do run quite lean and hot as standard. Also the catalytic converters in the stock pipes contribute to the heat. The general 'de-restriction' of the engine will gain you more power and a cooler, better running engine.
Raise the needles one clip position, turn the air mixture screw counter-clockwise 1/2 a turn and disconect the EPC. Get the sommer airbox mod or diy- pic here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34734 Your engine will run much better and cooler after that but aftermarket pipes (no cat.) are still recomended. I've got akras but the cheapest options are ktm alu silencers or remus alloy. If it's still running too hot you could try redline water wetter. Or install a second radiator fan detailed here : http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...ht=950+lc4+fan Hope this helps, cheers |
