Hi Tim.
The weight saving is next to nothing 300 grams.
I would defo say it's cooler, still hot but not nuclear!! As for sound I would say it's the same, maybe a tad more engine noise.
A couple of extra things is that you could now lose the sas air system as their is no cat to burn off any oil/waste. (I haven't bothered)
Also my riding buddy here in the U.K (Ktm690). has a akropovic exhaust and we do a fair bit of greenlaning his carbon fibre end cap gave way ( rivet failure) he has re riveted it but has said next time it fails, he will put the stock back on and do the same as mine.

Well I have removed the CAT from 1 silencer. The first thing you notice is that it is not very heavy maybe only a kilo heavier than a sports silencer. When you cut the rear cone off you see why it runs so hot, the exhaust gas goes straight back to the rear cone, then forwards through the silencing part and back out the tail pipe, it is beautifully made and clearly very efficient. With the cat out the rear cone runs hotter if that's possible as the cat will dissipate some heat, the exhaust note is louder and very tinny sounding with a horrible rasp on over run. There is no perceptible difference in performance however it now has a dreadful flat spot around 2700 rpm and has been a bad experiment, I'm pleased I only did one and will have to look out for a standard replacement.
The bikes have been going well and now have over 4000 miles on them and apart from the horrible engine noise at idle (I have lined the sump guards to stop the resonance which has helped) they go well and I'm sure as they bed in over the next 15000 miles will become really good. Sue's slave cylinder failed at 400 miles, disappointing, I fitted an Oberon unit as our only Dealer, Drysdales in Perth did not have stock and have still not sorted out the warranty after more than 6 months, do not deal with them. Best measured mpg so far is 82 but they always run in the mid 70's, they are comfy enough for 3-400 miles a day and seem to be a good all-round machine.

I did the 15 minute idle reset and the bike runs as well as ever now just sounds awfull.

Now looking for a std silencer, must read 2016 stamped on the inside, be clean and straight and have original finish.

Hi Graham and Sue, are you both still in Elgin and running the 690s ?
Just curious because I'm just a few miles East and also run a 2014 690 Enduro...now with many changes but I'm pretty happy with it.
I fitted an X-Trig and upgraded rear spring tonight, new fuel pump and Mazinga fuel sock tomorrow.

All the best,

Mike.
