seat height to high or low

hi
iam short in the leg and just got a lowering kit off ebay yesterday
it is the dog bones that go on your shock
they are from bikefarmmv in germany they cost £26.00with p&p
they have jackup kits for the same price plus radiator grills and a few over items.
it is to let seat height down by 30mm i know alot of u want to jack up your bike so check it out bikefarmmv on ebay
i will let u know what the diff is when fitted

Hi Rob,

Got the jackup dog bones there as well. I won an auction for 20 EUR. (But I cant recommend bikefarmmv, very bad customer service. No reply to emails etc.)

It was very easy to fit within 15 mins and bike handling improved a lot.

Neil, I got the tail raiser kit from bikefarm the same as Frank.

Very easy to fit, I just jacked the bike up from the center just behind the bash plate. Make sure someone is there to keep hold of the bike.

Your dogbones should be a little longer then the standard ones.

Make sure you loosen the nuts before you jack the bike up!

Dreams down the drain!

Hi,

My dad had a honda transalp for a couple of years and I always liked the idea of travelling to the unknown on a motorcycle that could handle the tarmac as well as dirt roads and off-road situations.

Now, I’m 30 and I hope, after doing my driver’s license, to buy a used motorcycle. The problem is that I’m 1,66m or, in Imperial, about 5 feet 6 inches. I basically found out that I’m too short for a BMW GS or Honda Africa Twin (my longtime favorites) and that only the Moto Guzzi Stelvio (who isn’t a 100% adventurer bike:(), in the lower position, is comfortable for me (The Stelvio is a new bike too expensive for me).One of my initial idea was also to buy a 250cc trail bike(I'm a new rider) but I’m too short. I found out that my optimal seat height is about 800 mm or 31.5 inches. I can ride motorcycles with higher seats but it isn’t really comfortable and practical. So, my question is:

BMW among others, offers a lower seat configuration, is it possible to install it on a used bike or is it a factory option? :helpsmilie:

Second question: Is it comfortable? :mchappy:

Thanks,
Al

Al, I am only 1.63cm tall (on a good day!). I rode an F650GS and now own a Kawasaki Versys. Original seat heigh on the Versys was 84cm. Basically I could barely touch the ground with one toe!

It is easy enough to get the seat scooped out (check out with Welcome to Custom Motorcycle Seats they have worked on both my GS and my versys seats). Very good job and comfi seat!

If this is not enough, you can drop the front forks. If this is not enough you can find a lowering link to lower the rear shock. (I did all of that on my Versys!)

In extreme cases you can find a shock specialist workshop and cut the spring (I was told by a a specialist!)

In summary when there is a will there is a way! There are lots of bikes you can ride. Don't worry too much.

Cheers,
