Pre '08 KLR 650 Mods

Hello,

I am looking to DIY mods on my bike. I haveAlready replaced stock skid plate and did the doohickey. I amplanning on doing;

1. Rad and Resevior Guards
2. Rear Master Cylinder Guard
3. T vent Carb
4. CORBIN SEAT (did 1500 kms on stock over 2.5 days and had worst case of monkey ass)
5. Aluminum Bars
6. 12v outlet
7. Engine Guards with highway pegs
8. Subframe Bolts

I am contemplating;

1. SS front/rear brake lines
2. Higher windscreen (Have stock, dont seem to get bad buffering)
3. Progressive Shock
4. Progressive Springs

Anyone have any reasons why I should or shouldnt do any of the items listed? Or something I left off?

Planning on doing a Inuvik to TDF trip in 2009, and if my funds last ill go downunder.

Thanks.
Mitch

I mounted a 12-volt receptacle (fused, direct wiring to the battery) on the plastic wiring connections cover at the front of the steering head (clears fairing, windshield).

The inherent vibrations of the KLR650 ('07) challenge the purchase of the plug in the socket. The "whole lot of shakin' goin' on" shakes the plug from the socket, without compensatory rubber bands to maintain the connection.

Some vibration isolation mounting (e.g., using foam), a more satisfactory mounting point, or maybe a socket with a spring-loaded cover (mine's a mere rubber disk) would hold the plug secure.

Don't like using the rubber bands, but--'til a more permanent solution arises, the elastics will "git 'er done."

I added a more robust bash plate, engine guards/highway pegs, and NERF BARS. The highway pegs aren't essential, in my view, but the HT PD nerf bars mount there. If you go the nerf bar route, insert the upper left bolt from the RIGHT side of the frame, so removing the nut allows folding down the left nerf for radiator cap access . . .

don't bother with the after market windshield, in my opinion. the buffeting on my friend's KLR with the higher shield is much worse than mine with the stock. all other mods seem like a good plan.
