I was wondering whether you folks leaned towards the pre-2008 or
the 2008 KLR.

I don't think there are enough 08s out to really get a feel for the real world differences. There are not the accessories available for the 08 yet so it doesn't have the protection available for parts. That will and is changing. I have a friend who has one and is very happy with it. Much better on the road than the previous model. Whether it is as good, better, or worse on difficult tracks is still unknown. At least to me.
