KLE500 brake pad/parts/manuals

Picked up my new KLE on Friday……and then dropped it about an hour later. That kick stand is a joke. Now I'm going to have to invest in a new fairing. Where's the best place to buy parts (I'm based in Ireland)?

My bike didn't come with an owners manual. Are there any PDFs floating about on the internet? Also, what Haynes/Clymer (if any) is best for this bike?

I had trouble replacing the front pads. I got the caliper off the wheel ok, but then I couldn't figure out how to get the pin out. I started pulling this squashy rubber thing, but it didn't feel right, so I left well enough alone.

On the up side, I love the KLE. It's twice as good as my F650, and about half the price!

KLE 500 Manual

I bought a KLE 500 last month after a 25 year rest in my motorbike history and am loving every minute out on it . I bought a manual for an 04 or 05 KLE last week on E-Bay on disc (£2.00) good buy, andI can have a copy in the post for you tommorrow if you can let me know where to post it.

Cheers. That's very kind of you. I'll email you my address via the link you sent. Welcome back to the world of biking.

P.S. This is karma. Only a couple of weeks ago I gave away my old CB500 manual to someone from another biker site. And when I get your manuals, I'll make a point of sending it on to someone else.

The pads are easy to replace without disassembling the calipers! Although there is a trick, and it is the same for front and rear...

First remove the caliper from its mounting point (2 bolts front - 2 allen heads rear) and gently push back piston(s) with brake pads in place. Remove smaller pad first and then (here is the trick!) remove the larger pad from the pins by pushing on the exposed end of the pin that DOES NOT HAVE the rubber thingy protruding from the piston side of the caliper. With a little patience and a gentle wiggle, the large pad can be removed as there is just enough space to allow it to slide off the aforementioned pin.

Installation is a reverse of the above procedure, taking care to ensure that the retaining spring clips are located correctly to hold the pads in place.

Exposed parts of brake pistons may need a light coat of brake cleaner, wd40 or the like to clean the muck off prior to pushing the pistons pack into the "non worn brake pad" position. Just make sure the pads are working correctly before setting off.

Cheers
Ian

It took a lot of patience and a hammer! But I got if off eventually. The ones I put on (Carbone Lorraine I think) are much easier to get on/off. Thanks again for the tip.

I got a KLE Service Manual in the post from Gavin. If anyone needs a copy PM me and I'll send it on.
