Iceland in early May
Is there any sense to plan a trip to Iceland around 1st of May? I´m not talking about the Interior, but ring road and possibly the Westfjords.
Thanks beforehand, Rami |
It is not bad time to visit Iceland. I was there in April and May in 2005 by normal car. Teperature about 5-15, daylight about 18 hours, no tourists. Ring route for first time in Iceland is enough for 1 month. There are many interesting things to see on the ring, really good places to visit. Of course you can't go into interior by normal car and in this time.

It was early but not too early. We were in Iceland from 27th April to 4th may. The ring road was in good condition, no snow or ice. F -roads in the north are not only closed but impossible to drive if you don´t have a snow mobile...
Tourist season starts at 1st of may and some accommodation was cheaper before that day and some places were closed. We did´nt have any reservations but it was easy to find a place to sleep. Weather was cold and windy (0..+5 degrees c) but sunny in the north, warmer but very unstable in the East and South. Spesial thanks to Haddi from Riding Iceland - Home Photo is from Krafla volcano. |
