Iceland Camping Card 2014
 

Can anyone shed any light on this years camping card details? As far as their website shows it says that details should be finalised by December (2013). I can't seem to find anymore info.

Any help would be appreciated.

In 2013 I went to Iceland. I bought the camping card, but never used it.....

The camping who are a member are far from everything. I alwasy drive with the flow, and met only one camping from the camping card. The campsite was very simple. But, but but, they charge extra for the shower.....?

I found several camping for free, with nice toilets and warm showers. I payed for campsites with cold showers. You never know what You get, until You are there.

Next time I don't buy this camping card.

It is indeed a useless card with just a few campsites member of it. Camping in Iceland is never a problem.

Yeah the card isnt worth it, bought one and only stayed on there sites 3 times in 4 weeks , camping is cheep anyway

Important to know if you go wild camping:

Never go offroad or offpiste, it is strictly forbidden in Iceland and for a very good reason. Every trace or footstep that you make offroad or offpiste will be visable for years and years. Nature is very vonarable in Iceland.

There are many places you can camp wild, most of them closed to the road, no problem at all, as nobody will pass during evening/night.

We were there for three months this time and did buy the camping card for 100 Euro despite our definite preference for free-camping in our motorhome. Betty wanted to use the heated swimming pools and they are nearly always next to the campgrounds so it was a matter of convenience.

Used it for 45 nights all over Iceland so they definitely didn't make any money out of us.

For a normal shortish vacation it would be very bad value for money. When you feel the need for a shower just go in to the heated pools and pay the cheap entry and use their showers (compulsory before swimming anyway)

Some of their sites are very good value with warm comfortable amenities and free hot showers and free internet and free entry to the swimming pools while others are about as basic as you could get and still have the gall to call it a camping ground. Close to 50 sites spread fairly evenly over Iceland means you don't have far to go to find one.

As in all countries, the best places to camp are the ones you find yourself out in the wilderness somewhere
