Cycling Iceland May 2015
 

Here we go again and hope the winds behind me on this trip............See you on the road!


Starting this trip from either Kirkjubaerklauster or Skaftafell heading toward the Eastfjords and then on to Lake Myrvatn and Husavik in the north.


I'll cycle out from the airport at Keflavik to Sellfoss via Grindavik on the south road which is a good 70 mile first days riding before taking the Straeti bus out to where I turned back last year due to bad weather.


Iceland as ever is always a challenge and the distances between food stops can be quite long when you're cycling so it always pays to carry a good supply of food on the bike just incase the weather turns bad or there are strong headwinds which can easily double the cycling time...........!

The weather in Iceland is improving at long last after the late spring and my trusty Thorn Sherpa is ready for its next trip to Iceland.............New transmission fitted and just a shakedown test to ride before stripping the bike and putting it into its bag sometime this weekend for Tuesday's departure although there could be the prospect of a general strike while I'm away!


Leaving on an Iceland trip is always exciting and you never literally know what the weather will throw at you and all my equipment is tried and tested and waterproofs have been upgraded to 'more waterproof' having said that it could be dry but I doubt it from past experience!


Good exchange rate aswell at the moment with around 205 ISK-£1
