West Midland (UK) HUers sign in here

I know it is a bit Cheezy and I admit that I am stealing this concept from an other bike site. But I have just started a Staffordshire Community here. So the point of this thread is: 1) advertising it a bit to renerate some interest and 2) want to find out who and how many HUers are in the this Area.. So Please drop a line here and maybe we can start to get some pub-nights and mini-meet arranged :thumbup1:

West Midlands

Hi Xander

I live in Alcester (8 miles west of Stratford-upon-Avon) and my good pal Mark who I travel with a lot is in Coventry - I suppose that puts us in the West Midlands ?

Dick 22 Sep 2008 21:12

Me too

Yep count me in
Got a 15 year old XTZ850 that I rode down to Cape Town a few years ago and an xr650r that i race (ish) in a few UK based rallies
I live in Bewdley, a few miles north of Worcester and always happy to meet fellow travellers

MysteryB 22 Sep 2008 21:22

Great idea Xander, I am from Shrewsbury and always up for a ride out.

I'm in Walsall, West Mids. I tour Europe on either a Harley-Davidson or Moto Guzzi. I'd be interested in meeting others in the area.

Hutch 23 Sep 2008 23:56

Hey guys. From Shrwesbury aswell. Only been as far as Belgium and Holland so far. Not sure whether to fly to India and buy an Enfield or ride there on a KLR650. Money being a major consideration.

Anyway, would welcome a meet even if its only a night in a pub or a ride out!

....See MysteryB is also from Shrewsbury. - I've msg'd you on facebook. Hope you don't mind!

Xander 25 Sep 2008 15:20

Great!

I am really pleased by the number of people that have put their hands up.
So AS I started this tread. I say it falls to me to arrange the first meet of some kind. Well I am away this weekend (I am taking a friend on his first motorcycle tour.. trying to seed the addiction..).

I say we start small like a pub run on a Sunday in October... I am free well every sunday (I have to check this with the boss though.. SWMBO is not one to cross :helpsmilie::helpsmilie::helpsmilie:)...

Other then that.. the other reason for this thread was to generate interest in the Staffordshire HU Community... so sign up and it will make organising ride outs all that easier

Hutch 30 Sep 2008 00:26

Name a time and a place for such minimeet and i'll be there! 1 month ahead i can book it off work. Any less and i may be able to pull some strings.

See there's a 7th northern meet. Bit out the way for me, but maybe go.

Been in the Midlands should be a central place for many hubbers. Finding a venue shouldn't be a problem either.

I see a plan coming together.....

Nomadic1 30 Sep 2008 21:21

This could be something really interesting, although I'd just like to add my 2 penneth and say that I absolutely detest meeting up and standing around admiring each others bikes. Much prefer to actually go somewhere :scooter:

Incidentally, if you know anyone who's after a big adventure type bike, my ktm 990 S is up for grabs. Punt em my way please?

Thanks

Gadge 1 Oct 2008 11:14

I am another 'East Midlander (Jcn 18 M1) but work in West Mids, so hope I qualify by virtue of that!

Am disgracefully new to adv touring and biking in general (one camping trip to wales is my sole experience thus far.!) but really keen to get into it so love to join any mini-meet, to meet and ride (hopefully some off-road) with you 'experienced types..'

Location unimportant to me, and I'll go with the flow on dates!

MysteryB 4 Oct 2008 18:13

Xander any more thoughts on when a good time and place to have the first meet / ride out???

:scooter: :thumbup1:

Gill750 5 Oct 2008 12:15

Hi Xander. Good idea. I just about live in Staffordshire, up in the Peak District Nat Park near to Leek. Never done a ride out, I usually travel by myself. However, this is a great area to ride about in and if something is organised and I am home, any ride out is welcome to call for a cuppa when the inevitable rain starts again....... you can email through the HUBB. Cheers, Gill.

Xander 8 Oct 2008 13:13

Guys..OKAY So... Mrs.X just gave me the green light!

i will also post this as a separate thread when it is a bit more solid.. but I am thinking sunday oct 26th for a meet up.(sorry for the late notice..)

Right now i am thinking a two pronged approach.. say the southern/eastern guys meet up early(ish) (say at bassets pole round-a-bout on the A38 at 0930-1000h either in the pub or McHell across the lot) ride up in the direction of the peaks district, on some nice A roads (A515 kinda thing).. Stop at a pub for lunch(need suggestions here.. but would like to stay out of matlock too crowed :( ): talk bikes, trips, future trips, the true meaning of spinach, basically general BS of little to no value, .. and take the long road back. via anywhere.. it is hard to find a road that is not nice up there.. to wherever people want to leave from..

It will be a nice slowish ride (will be controlled by the slowest among us) and with no dirt, no pressure, all types of bikes are welcome, just no 3 van support crews please...

I will/can come up with a definitive route if people want.. but my usual method is to ride around aimlessly...

Hows this sound?
:scooter::scooter::scooter::scooter::scooter::scoo ter::scooter::scooter::scooter:

Hey Xander - sounds good to me too except I'm off to Tunisia and Libya on 19th October and won't be back 'til 10th November.

Would've liked to have joined you.

Flyingdoctor 8 Oct 2008 19:34

Xander, A good meeting place in the peaks is the old smithy cafe in Monyash. Great all day breakfast and nice icecreams too. There is a pub nextdoor for those that have to indulge. There is usually loads of other bikes there too. It's between Ashbourne and Buxton.

trophydave 8 Oct 2008 20:19

Not strictly what you are after, but I am in the East Midlands, any good??

Of course you are welcome...:welcome: All hubbers are (as are any other rider to be honest)!!!
Well only if you are not bringing a 3 --4x4 support vehicles :funmeterno:

I will post this as a mini-meet thread later today/tomorrow (I will call it the MIDLANDS MICRO MEET so that others can see it as well and maybe join.. but spread the word.. and am already looking forward to it!! We are going to be two up.. so I am likely to be the slowest bike!

Hutch 14 Oct 2008 21:21

Would like to come though I'm trying to watch my spending at the moment. Probably going to the northern meet though (lots of miles but camping also).
Will let you know for sure sooner to the time. More £££ dependent than weather dependent. Hope everyone has a good time anyway.

bodie 15 Oct 2008 18:17

Hope i will be able to make it. Nice steady ride out sounds good to me as i'm not a knee down race type.
Maybe a fixed destination not a fixed route would be best if we lose anyone i.e. me i know where to head for:thumbup1:.
i do like the take what looks good concept of road choice.
Hope to see you all soon!!!!!!!!:D

Hooli 18 Oct 2008 20:53

i've just seen this. I'm in Burton On Trent, should be up for the meet but as i said on the other thread its the day before payday & im a bit broke. all my own fault really, 2,000miles touring scotland at the begining of the month on a T140v plus tyres and tax on the other bike - its all added up a bit quick.

Hello all,

I am just north of Brum in Aldridge........

I was reading thru this post trying to get an idea of the kind of riding you all do / what bikes you all own ......?

I (as one other member posted ) am not one for too many meetups but rather enjoy rideouts with a bit of green lane adventure added into the mix !

If anyone is interested I have a great 9 page route ( thru the south east of Derbyshire ) loaded on the roadbook ......... I have only done about 4 pages so far due to one 'bad lane' .......

I will be going back soon to complete the route ...........

I did the HUMM and then took in Europe and Morocco last summer :Beach:

I am Jon and I am on a KTM 640 Adv :thumbup1:

***Chippy to the Ace Cafe - Sunday Feb 8th***

Hi Xander and All :mchappy:

Anyone going down to the Ace Cafe Adventure Travel Day at the Ace on Sunday 8th Feb?

Fancy riding down together, as we can meet at Ma Larkins Cafe, say 8.00 to 8.30 am which is on the junction of the A44 & A361 at Chipping Norton, then A road it to Oxford and catch the M40 at Jct 8? Arriving between 9.30am to 10.00am, just fashionably late!

Alternatively, we can meet at the faceless, rip off services at Jct 10 M40 and spend more time on the boring motorway, if more suitable.

Cheers

Chris

Xander 30 Jan 2009 10:01

Hey Jon
With the KTM640... I would love to get some lanes in Let me know next time you go out. I am on a AT so not the fastest or most competent dirt rider but still love it.

HEY CHRIS,
I think a meet up and group ride to the ACE would be great. Ill talk to MRS.X and get back to you. We will be two up (as always) so for me a dimble down some A-roads would be great. I am also trying to talk a friend of mine (who lives in Oxford) to join so your route would be perfect, (he is back to riding after a long hiatus so is still getting his wheels back and is not the fastest) . Personally though I don't mind being a lot later then Fashionable..(it is already a 2 hour ride to chipping norton for us) so would not mind if we put it off meet up for a bit.
Cheers
Xander

Dick 30 Jan 2009 10:15

Me too

I could be tempted to wrestle my mighty XTZ850 out of the warm, dry garage and trundle down to the Ace Cafe in London on the 8th. It's work dependent but I think I should be able to make it . I'm just north of Worcester so I'm not going to be the first one down at the Ace Cafe I shouldn't think, but an 0830 start from the Midlands should mean a late brunch at the Ace. I'll keep watching the thread

welovebikes 30 Jan 2009 10:59

Ace Cafe

Hi Xander

That's great and we can leave between 10.00 and 11.00am if you like, as I've just realised I'm taking the Missus and 5 of her friends down to London for a night out (Help!!!) for her birthday on Saturday, so won't be in till about 3.00am, Sunday morning.

Do you think your friend would like to ride up to Chippy to join us or shall we meet him and anyone else at the snack bar and loos on the south bound A40, near Wheatley, about 1 mile before jct 8? I'm sure he'll jump right back in and we'll set an easy pace for him.

Looking forward to it.

Cheers

Hi, all. I live in Colwall, foot of the Malvern Hills. I am driving to the Ace Cafe as have to carry a couple of boxes of books, etc. I will give a SHORT presentation around 3.30 but will be around the Cafe from 11 am - the bearded overweight oldie (very) in denim overalls and an Ushuaia hat. Look forward to meeting....

Hi all, I'm located right on the Welsh border,so would that count as N Midlands? Post office seem to think so...:innocent:

The run down to the Ace sounds good, anyone else in the (my) area fancy running down?

I'm on my old Xtz660,so won't be setting any land speed records!

Hello,

I'm in Kingswinford and can be seen wobbling around on an XT660Z.

Not sure if I can make the 8th for the ride to the Ace (almost certainly working), but would be interested in a meet up and some very easy off roading maybe??

Ouch! 3am than a cold early morning ride out.. you are a tougher man then i am.. I am so old that after a midnight outing i am wrecked for a week!! :helpsmilie:

That timing sounds good to me. My mate said he may be interested but wants to wait and see what the weather forecast is like. Right now the met office says: "Conditions will turn drier through the weekend, but continuing cold with widespread frosts on Saturday and Sunday, and with chance of a few wintry flurries." To be honest with you; if it is anything like yesterdays ride (yes i was stupid enough to ride to work), I too will be saying forget it and staying in bed. I went-down yesterday on the way home from work..(TURNING INTO MY DRIVE WAY!!!! grrrr:() no damage to anything but some scratches on my less then 36 hour old (at the time) crash bars and my "I am imortal and invincible pride"!!
Hopefully see you sunday
X

Phew!

Hi Xander and all

Burning a few candles myself and not tough at all, but relieved to learn that wimping out is OK on this site, as I don't do snow and ice, but hoping it's dry roads and about 8c.

Just looked on a long range and it promises 6c with light showers, which just sounds bearable. If not, I'll bowl down in the motor, as I want to hear the chats and put a few faces to names.

Hope to see you on Sunday, as it should be bearable.

Cheers

Hi Phil

Hi Phil :mchappy:

Nice to hear from you and it's looking less and less likely, as I look out at the blizzard and foot of snow in the garden, that I will be going to the ACE Cafe on the bike on Sunday.

I will take the old 4x4 though, as I really want to meet anyone who makes it there, so will have a couple of seats available if anyone can make it to my place near Banbury or to an M40 junction or services south of junction 11.

Cheers

Chris

Xander 6 Feb 2009 10:10

Hi Chris.

It's looking less and less likely, as I look out at the sheet of ice on my un-gritted road and snow in the garden, that we will be going to the ACE Cafe on the bike on Sunday.
If we do go it will be last minute and could be abandoned at any time. So sorry but i dont think it is a good idea to count on us.
Cheers all and have fun
Xander

welovebikes 6 Feb 2009 10:46

Understand

Hi Xander

Fully understand, especially as you are a 3 hours plus run on a good day to the Ace.

We'll meet up soon enough and a good place may be at the roving bike meets around Worcs and Glos that happen on most Wednesday nights over the Summer.

Well organised and over a 1000 bikers at some of them. Have a look at: Bikers Nite plus it's all in aid of the County Air Ambulance.

Cheers

Hi all

Just signed up with HU....

I live near Stratford upon Avon & it would be good to hook up with some like minded adventure travellers. Particularly as I'm awaiting an op & my bike is sat under a tarp for the moment.
That being said, I have plenty of tales from my 5 month ride around India last year. Would love to hear your stories too, helping to pass the time until my return to the Himalayas' in July this year.
