Venue change for HUBB 2015? and 'badboy' Roadkill Danny!
 

I had to laugh at the thread on Adventure bike rider forum, some it appears don't like over head planes, complain about the catering due to being salad munchers and 'Roadkill' Danny, one guy is appalled that the pigeons were shown no respect! Is it therefore possible that you can next year buy frozen birds for the cookout or to make the roadkill more authentic 'ramraid' Tescos poultry aisle?

Perhaps for the benefit of ABR folk the venue can be moved to a Library, the Adventure Book Readers would appreciate this a lot more, as one of hubbs moderators put it, ABR should stand for Anything But Ride!!

It appears from the replies on the main thread concerning the HUBB 2014 that most people had a brilliant, social time and that's what it's all about. There's nothing better than having a pint, or a bacon butty with like minded folk.

I've been to 5 of the last 7 events and the those I missed were;

3 events ago where the rain was pouring down. I received a phone call from a good mate at the event suggesting the conditions were unsafe, for my long planned ride down in the middle of the night (which was good advise)

this year, due to the event location. I'm one of those folk that cannot sleep near to jet traffic (and I'm one of the most pro aviation people you'll ever meet), nor can I wear ear plugs in bed (after surgery makes them most irritating). So last year was really awful for me, and my fellow group of Serow riders, especially as we were riding off on a trip directly from the event, so the lack of sleep caused us to leave the site early.

It looks like it may have been the best supported and interesting meet so far and long may this interest continue but personally I'd be happier to support a venue where sleep was a possibility.

I know that a long term agreement was set up with the location owners and I wonder if 'those in the know' can indicate as to when the agreement expires and if there are any thoughts on if the venue will remain the chosen one?

Sorry if I come across as a bit negative but my only problem is the location itself, not the event, which is usually the highlight of my year.

Reggie... Surely you have a set of external ear defenders ?? They'd also keep your ears warm haha.

For those having trouble sleeping, I recommend the age old age remedy of drinking more.....

Maybe not at the bar though.. Those prices would give you nightmares. ;)

I'm a member of ABR & in fairness, the very few negatives posted is not representative of those who attended the HU event, nor of other members - I only partially agree that many are "book readers" because not everyone can afford to or have plans to travel but that doesn't mean to say they're any less a person than those who can/do.

As far as the noise goes, I don't have an issue with it. But if I did, then I'd book a room in the on-site hotel. Just a few fields away from the top field makes a massive difference too.

The on site hotel is just as noisy I'm afraid phoenix although personally I don't really have too much of a problem with it.

The 'planes weren't a problem at all; the ear plugs I used sorted this out! The live music, however . . . . easily sorted, just leave on Saturday evening rather than Sunday morning! The Donnington venue is far better than Ripley.

Learnt to live with it during the day; earplugs (and a blindfold as I had no curtains in my camper) worked during the night.

Try going to a 'traditional' bike rally. Bands playing until 6am, engines popping on their limiter all night long, screams and laughter..

Try camping in South America where people only get their BBQ's going at 11pm and party all night.. bier

What are they going to do when the Ritz Carlton doesn't have any space and they have to part their GSA's outside a Youth Hostel, stay in a mixed dorm and be woken up all night by travellers coming and going.


I think it was one of the quietest events I've been to.

I remember some clown complaining a few years ago about a HU event that there was mud on the floor of a portable toilet block. The block was in the middle of a (muddy) camping field. How did he think he and others got into the block? Did they fly? Why didn't he wipe his feet on the way in?

That is so TRUE!! :D
