Southern/London mini meet/drinks whatever....?

I'm starting to be jealous and a bit annoyed at those northern guys, having private mini meets at the drop of a hat! :wink3:

I thought we could do something in the South/London? I do realise that people in the south, with our hectic lives, can't probably make a full weekend :tongue3:, so what about drinks/lunch/dinner / whatever a Saturday or Sunday?
Don't mind organising something late September/early October, if there is any interest ?
No offence to northerners of course!

Cheers,

Maria

Mike,
I think a Scotland meet might be in order! How about Saturday and Sunday atSligachan on Skye in Scotland in September. We could call it the '6S' meet!
(Sorry for the hi-jacking Maria!)
Matt

maria41 13 Jul 2006 17:06

That sounds like an excellent plan to me. How about we find a friendly farmer just outside of London and try camping one Saturday night? I don't mind meeting in London, but I'd ride my bike there and home and then wouldn't be able to have a few drinks. This also means that those not used to riding in London needn't come into town (we don't want to put them off biking for life!).

Thanks for putting my geography right Jake! :biggrin3:
To give an example of how good I am in geography:

(Somewhere in Paris, first time I met my other half)
Me: where are you from?
Him: I'm from North England.
Me: So you're Scottish!!!
Him: :eek3: ...."non!!! Je suis Anglais!!!"

:oops2:

Yes we are going to buy the tipi tent. Big and confy! Not sure if the Arran or the "luxury one"! We should get it by September for our holidays! Not keen on spending 2 weeks in the small tent!

maria41 14 Jul 2006 09:21

farmer in Surrey or around?

Why not? If there is any interest? Although I am not acquainted with any farmers :)

Anyone know of some place in the South where we could pitch a few tents and have few drinks?

dkmoose 14 Jul 2006 10:25

I would also be interested - should be staying in Cambridge from mid September to beginning of November. :thumbup1:

Maverick Bubble 14 Jul 2006 12:33

There is a campsite in north east London. Its in Chingford on the Sewerdstone road

Maverick Bubble 14 Jul 2006 12:37

Oh i forgot, i think there is one in Picketts Lock on the river lea at Edmonton. I say 'i think' because i know there was one there, but there building a national sport centre nearby and i am not sure if its still open. I can find out though if anybody is interested

Matt,

I would say that's a great idea!

Depending on when it is, you might even get some people from over the border join in, if permitted.

Suggest you start a new thread for this meeting, though, to avoid me having to read about the southern jolly... :innocent:

What about Sussex?

hmmm... if we do a meet in a campsite, I'd rather outside London, in Sussex for
example? http://camping.uk-directory.com/sussex_camp_sites.php

Only a short ride from London and could be cool?

Also what about saturday 6/ sunday 7th October ?

Matt

Hi Matt

Sligachan is quite depressing under cloud. So is Glencoe - but it's a lot nearer!

Why aren't y'all whizzing down to the Belgian meeting??????Have a winter meet in Glencoe -our very own Elephant Rally>>>>

Ah'll tak' the high road....etc

dkmoose 14 Jul 2006 14:41

Belgian meeting

I am planning on going the the Belgian meeting. It's sort of on the way from Copenhagen to Cambridge.:innocent:
And another 4 weeks later in South of England would also be fine.
Then 4 weeks after that....off into the sunset.:scooter:

Sussex would be fine, but the following weekend (saturday 14th, sunday 15th) would be better for me.

Matt Cartney 15 Jul 2006 10:07

OK am going to start a Scotland thread...
Matt
Maria: Thanks for the use of your thread! :)

Tim Cullis 15 Jul 2006 22:24

I've sent you a PM with some ideas.

Tim

Tim thanks. Sound good! If we can get few people interested in a mini-meet down the sea side...

Ok guys what about Saturday 14th october? Ride south from London toward Brighton in the morning. Have lunch somewhere down the coast, pitch the tents and have few beers.... talk of our past/future travels/plans, exchange ideas, and take it easy...
How many people up for it?

For those of you worried that October may be too cold for camping, lots of campsites rent also bungalows/caravans etc... sure we could sort something out!

Maria

dkmoose 17 Jul 2006 10:46

Sounds good to me. Just tell me where and what time to meet, and I'll be there.

muthaf9cka 17 Jul 2006 14:59

Parfait. I'll be there.

maria41 31 Jul 2006 14:58

can't make that weekend in october :(

Sorry guys but I won't be able to attend October weekend due to work commitments. :(

However, if any volunteer, I can offer to organise some evening drinks in town.
I know you can't ride your bike AND have a drink, (well I wouldn't!) but you can ride your bike any time! Let's meet, compare notes, exchange ideas and dream about our future trips!! Bring photos of your previous ones etc...

Ok here are details, say Friday 13th October (if you're not supertitious!) somewhere in central London for easy commute. Meeting from 5:30pm onward. If any one interested let me know here and I will check in fancyapint.com for a quiet pub where we can sit and talk! Feel free to suggest a pub.

Cheers,

Maria

muthaf9cka 31 Jul 2006 15:43

Maybe we should abandon the idea then and just go to the pub instead.

Shells 31 Jul 2006 22:20

So this one worked out well...

...the South london meet thread is hijacked by wee Scottish lads, but is narrowly reclaimed with the suggestion of a camping weekend, then turns onto a pub meet on a friday with no tents in sight.
:)

Is it really a bikers catch up if we turn up after having caught the bus?

Any other friday/sat or sat/sun camping opportunities in the near future? what about August? It's a great month in London, no one is here!

maria41 1 Aug 2006 09:02

weeekend

Hey Shell, you're right it's a bit messy!

The only WE we're free in August is on 12/13th. Should we try that date? Not familiar with local campings, any suggestions?

muthaf9cka 1 Aug 2006 15:25

definitely can't make that as it's my sister's wedding.

Weekends I *am* available:-

19/20 August
23/24 September
14/15 October
every weekend after 28/29 October

Of course, a Friday night in the pub (in London) shouldn't be too difficult anytime. Not available on 11th of August or 8th or 15th of September. Any other date is fine.

This is starting to become like herding cats...

That made me laugh loud! It's exactly spot on!

Ok suggest to do a drink in town first and if anyone turns up and is up to it discuss a WE away later in october?

muthaf9cka 3 Aug 2006 13:21

that sounds like a better plan.

muthaf9cka 24 Aug 2006 22:31

I'm guessing this idea has died a death then. Us southerners truly are miserable bastards.

Ha! I'll have you know I'm 6'2" !!

Hope the Londoners eventually get it together for a proper meet.
Looking forward to the Scottish one as long as it stays dry for 2 minutes.

Bossies 30 Aug 2006 09:12

If our new bikes arrive in time (they are currently lost at sea) then we will be there!

maria41 30 Aug 2006 09:19

Camping Saturday

My new summer tent has just arrived and it needs testing. So Saturday the second of December, I will be camping at the Noname (Whitehorse) in Hampshire. About 20 km south of Alton. It's a lovely country Pub, with real Ale, and a flat camping field with toilet. I will be there from about mid-afternoon Saturday, Or earlier, if anyone would like to join me.

The pub is here N51 03.351 W0 58.958 and also here OS LandRanger 186 SU714290

I may be able to e-mail or fax a map if anyone's interested

£6 per tent per night

Don't let the Northerners have all the fun
