I can only echo the sentiments mentioned above. A great weekend and as a first timer I'll be back again no doubt. Many thanks everyone.

Same thanks goes from me too - another HU newbie. I met two of the guys (another first timer) from the forum on the way down from Scotland and rode back with them. Had a great time and loved hearing everyone's stories. Thanks for those with the patience that a new biker required (when the conversations went straight into the technicalities I had to stop them!) and plenty of inspiration. It wasn't good for my head though as I'm not too long back from 12 months of non bike travel, and I was tempted to head south instead of north on the Sunday.......

Even the dogs were well behaved
Brilliant meeting, thanks to all and I managed to get back to Oxfordshire pretty much dry :-)

Thanks to all those that made HU meet another successful meet nice to meet up with with friends again, and bat some ideas around for future trips.
Had some great laughs with the Brighton 2 Capetown lads. |
Hi,
Many thanks to all, another great meeting. Enjoyed the company and the presentations were excellent again, I particularly enjoyed Dave Lomax's 'The Shorter Way Across, Spain' which even as a non wine drinker you can enjoy and Walter Colebatch's account of his trip across China in 'Tokyo to London Miles Ahead'. I particularly liked to accounts of the number plate issuing in China and the brake repairs made in China and Russia to the rear pads of the transalp, including a pad modified from a fighter jet!!. Have posted some pictures below that I took during the weekend:- Arrived safely at lumb farm fully loaded http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...8/DSCN0418.jpg Camp site busy http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...8/DSCN0449.jpg Found a spot http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...8/DSCN0454.jpg You always see interesting bikes at the hubb meet, never knew Laverda made a trailie...... the Laverda Atlas 750!! http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...8/DSCN0425.jpg ps did anyone get the url to the gps coordinate website that Dave Lomax mentioned in his presentation on the pyrenees? Regards Robin |
The site mentioned was:
ROAD BOOK Moto Quad VTT 4X4 - road book You have to chuck it through 'babelfish' if you cant read french too well (like me!) Thanks for the kind words on the Pyrenees presentation, I'm afraid I was a bit jaded by then so I'm really glad you still enjoyed it. I have to say that I was expecting some less complimentary comments after the Thursday and Saturday talks, 'Overweight is Under prepared'. I think they were a little contentious... Apologies if people thought I was a little too much on Thursday. I'm not used to live film crews and had a little, 'Liquid Courage', to smooth things along a little......never a great plan for a lightweight like me! Still, an excellent meeting. Thanks so much for everyone who came and chatted to us at the Adventure-Spec tent. Please bear with us for a few days if you are expecting an order. We've been snowed under over the last two days and are trying desperately to get ourselves back to our usual three day delivery turnaround. Ride safe guys. Dave |
I never thought the presentation on Thursday was too much at all. Jeez if you though you appeared under the influence you better start drinking more ;->
Being new to biking and being used to the outdoors world, I was interested in the amount of comments I overheard from seasoned bikers that made it cleared you opened many people’s eyes to the world of lightweight – a very common theme in the mountaineering world. I also liked seeing Alpkit being promoted in a non climbing/hiking environment – I’ve been watching them from the start and love their stuff. You won’t remember but I was the guy with the Rab top and Alpkit tshirt :) |

Regarding the talk I caught your Friday night presentation and I found it was engaging and humorous, from the sounds of it the thursday night one was even better. I only have to give training presentations at work very rarely and I find it very difficult so I appreciate how hard it is. Excellent job, particularly the wine selection tips which sound like they could be a life saver in basque region!! Many thanks for the gps link. Regards Robin |
Pictures...
Hello everyone...
Some pictures available from the meet. If I didn't have to spend so much time fixing my bike (and drinking wine) there would have been more pix... :oops2: If you want to use any of the pictures, please credit www,xtgirls.co.uk |
