HUBB UK 2017, Baskerville Hall, June 15-18

We're very pleased to announce that HUBB UK is back from June 15-18, 2017 in our great new location - Baskerville Hall Hotel, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountain National Park!

"The best location to date, actually getting there was a pleasure itself."

In addition to great facilities, the venue supports rider training, off-road courses and lots of bush for ride-outs, and we will use it! Coach Ramey Stroud will be back, along with David Knight and Lee Walters!

See the HUBB UK 2016 trailer for a taster! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xPrTkZMDBA

Typical comments from 2016:

"Super mix of real world people with a common interest."
"Good location (by the Brecon Beacons National Park and Hay on Wye), good presenters, good events, good company, well organised."
"Thanks Grant & Susan for bringing it back to the UK, you worked tirelessly (as did your main crew), it was a fantastic event."
"Brilliant, entertaining and informative presentations."
"As always a fantastic forum to meet like minded people and learn stuff."

Registration is OPEN NOW with early bird rates until 30 September!

rachel_norfolk 21 Aug 2016 08:31

I’ll be there - I’m determined to do better in the slow bike race. :-)

Hi Susan. I'm going to do my best to attend this one and maybe book a plot for my business.

I noticed the exhibitors section is "closed" on the booking page.

When will these be available ?

Thanks, Ted

Benson-1215 23 Aug 2016 22:11

Enjoyed this year so much i am down for more. Will try to arrange better weather
for next year.. :rain: but the Butty Bach beer went down well.

We really enjoyed this year's event. We were the club with the big trucks.

Unfortunately, the dates of next year's has clashed with Europe's biggest Overland event at Bad Kissingen in Germany, an event that our club members like to attend.

I have advertised this meeting within the club but already we are getting feedback that members are in a dilemma.

This is a great shame as it was a brilliant event

I am thinking about attending HUBB UK 2017. I will be coming from the US. Do you have a travel agency you can recommend? I would like to come in the week before and would even be willing to volunteer some of my time.

rachel_norfolk 31 Aug 2016 16:17

Oh you will have a fab time coming all the way from the US!

Are you planning to ride whilst you are here? Could be fun getting used to riding on our side of the road :-)

What is it you are wanting from a travel agency? There are so many places locally to book for accommodation I’m not sure I’d bother - just get on booking.com etc.

Rachel

backofbeyond 31 Aug 2016 18:01

I'd tend to agree with doing it yourself via online agencies. For the event itself you want to be either booking a room in Baskerville Hall or heading for the campsite (like most of us) as staying anywhere else is a bit restricting. If you're coming a week or so beforehand and (for any reason) Baskerville is unavailable then you'll probably need to find somewhere in Hay-on-Wye (2 miles away) and Booking.com et al would be perfect for that. There's loads of places to stay in the town

Getting there from whatever airport you fly into (probably one of the London ones) might need a bit of thought. Baskerville / Hay aren't wonderfully served by public transport (to say the least). You can get close with a bit of thought - train to Hereford and a taxi / bus for the last 20 miles for example but if you have a bit of spare time the area is worth exploring with your own transport - a hire car for example. Driving on the left isn't that hard (!) but you probably wouldn't want to do it for the first time trying to get out of London.

Last year was great fun and very inspiring to those of us who are new to this side of motorcycling.

Can someone pack the sunshine and bring it along please

I'm not sure what the official line is but this year I got to the campsite about 9.30pm on the Wednesday evening and I was nowhere near the first. My top tip (if you're camping) would be to arrive in the light so you don't put your tent up in a puddle doh

Oo-SEB-oO 1 Jan 2017 11:23

Registered... :D

Kim and I volunteered to do 2 presentations again this year... :helpsmilie:

Antipodean 1 Jan 2017 19:55

Registered. My first HU event, and signed up for some training. Very excited. :)

Wildman 10 Jan 2017 16:14

Registered. I think this is the fourth HUBB event that I've registered for. I'm hoping it'll be the first I attend!

Booked months ago, when just back from the Stans, and we will be on duty again, doing a presentation.

We will arrive Friday and will come with the car as we bring our little Brazilian dog: Scruffy !
Can't wait to go back and catch up with everyone :D

nordicbiker 15 Feb 2017 17:09

In 2013 I visited the HUBB meeting in Nakusp, British Columbia, which was a great event! I did a little presentation about motorcycling and traveling in Scandinavia. The meeting was the final highlight of my three month Cross-Canada trip.

At the meeting in UK this year I will (maybe) give a little presentation about exactly that three-month / 26.000km trip through Canada! :-)

After the meeting the plan is to visit some national parks in the UK for some hiking. Actually Bike&Hike is a nice combination!

Used travel kit &equipment you don't want, sell at HUBBUK!!!

This year the charity Motorcycle Outreach will have a stall to sell your used travel kit and equipment on your behalf, for a price decided by you, in return for a 10% donation of the sale price to Motorcycle Outreach (or more if you're feeling generous!) Please help this worthy charity and do yourself a favour at the same time- bring your stuff along to the stall from Friday onwards. Clean and serviceable items only please - e.g. camping equipment, bike stuff, clothing, tents, guidebooks - anything travel-related!
All items need to be clearly marked with your name and the sale price you would like. The stall will be open from [0900 hrs Friday] to 1800hrs on Saturday.
(Any items not sold and not collected by 11 am on the Sunday will be disposed of.)"

Hello Everyone,
I am new here - reading the forum has got me really craving some travel!
Just signed up for camping at Baskerville Hall, and whilst i know for most on here that is like a day out, i hope it will be the start of my motorcycle adventure(s)!
Look forward to meeting you allbier

Hi all. Due to being sold a complete write off, I now dont have a bike to ride until i can find £800 to fix it.

So if anyone wants my HUBBUK full weekend ticket with camping then its yours for £50.

A significant saving for one of the biggest and best meetings in the calendar.

I'm gutted not to be going but needs must.

Cheers, Ted

That's great news, Jo. I joined London Valley earlier this year, but haven't had a chance to get out. And frankly the idea of taking my V-Strom on greenlanes with my level of experience is a bit daunting.

Might be a good opportunity seeing as you're there and Coach Stroud's absence has freed up most of my schedule. :)

Bungy 9 Jun 2017 10:32

I've registered and paid for my first HU event and looking forward to meeting everyone.

Wildman 12 Jun 2017 06:09

Can't make another HUBB UK Meeting.

My weekend ticket with camping is available. Can't remember the cost. Yours for £40.00.

Grifter 12 Jun 2017 09:18

Hi Everyone,

Just registered to find out more about this event. While I can register here, I can't seem to register for the event? Too late I guess...

Does this mean I can attend as a day visitor only or not at all?

Wildman: Would be very interested in your ticket, but if not registered, could I use it?

Any help/guidance would be appreciated and apologies in advance if the answer has been staring me in the face.

Sloth505 12 Jun 2017 09:49

Grifter

Hi .If you go to Next HU Events on the right side of page . select HuBB UK .. down the bottom of page select ADv travellers .. you get message saying "too Late " but in red or yellow it says something about plenty of room so just turn up .. and pay on arrival :) " hope this helps beer

Grifter 12 Jun 2017 10:36

Thanks Sloth, yes that helps. I just wanted to confirm if that included overnight camping, rather than just turn up and pay for the day.

Hope it looks like that when I get there this afternoon. Last year it would have been easier to turn up in a boat.

Bunk House accommodation

I'm assuming that bedding is provided, anyone know either way?

Ta,

JC

Bones667 14 Jun 2017 16:18

Just checked Baskerville website and looked at some on line dorm pics. All rooms seem to have bedding and the write up doesn't mention otherwise.

I stayed there several years ago on a stagg weekend and back then all bedding was supplied.

Cheers
Bones

Well setting off tomorrow morning. Weather looks good and got a nice route planned to get there. What's the beer situation, is there a bar or do I need to stop for supplies?

TRF Ride Outs at HUBBUK

Just a quick one to say a big "Thank You" to those guys and girls who came out and had a go riding off road Thursday and Friday with myself and 3 colleagues from the TRF (Trail Riders Fellowship).
We really enjoyed taking you out - many for the first time off road, and hopefully building up your confidence to ride safely at the same time as having fun off road.
Thanks for all the positive comments after the ride and we hope to see some of you joining your local TRF group perhaps as preparation for longer world wide travels!

Just a few of us left now and what a great weekend that was not just seeing some good talks but catching up with old friends and getting inspired to go somewhere.

dubber68 18 Jun 2017 17:44

Had a great weekend and met some fantastic people. Thanks to everyone who helped make it that way.

Antipodean 18 Jun 2017 19:22

What an amazing weekend! My first bike event of any kind (bar runs to Ryka's and H-Cafe on weekends) and I get the impression I started at the top and everywhere else I visit will be compared against this.

In case they're reading: a big hi to David/Dai, Dougie and Sara, Damian, Tori, Mark, Tiffany, Will and Kate (different couple), Richard, and probably some others who'll hate me now. :) Lovely to meet you all.

And a big thanks to Grant and Susan, and all the volunteers and presenters.

The sweat hasn't dried from my ride home yet and I find myself checking out future events already... ;)

-Matt

Sgt.Cupid 18 Jun 2017 22:09

First HUBB for me and the missus. What a fantastic inspirational weekend...we will be back.
Also thanks to the Hereford TRF guys that helped me get my old 1200GS on the fantastic green lanes rideout on friday morning...
My pulse rate has just returned to normal :)

Another absolutely spectacular Meeting! Full of very inspiring people who got me fired up again and motivated for my next trip!

Here a couple of pictures of the people ultimately responsible for everything! They are the biggest influence in my life. Back in the days before I came across the HU (around 2004) I thought I was alone, having dreams of motorcycling the world. Then I found them ... and HOME!

Here a couple of photos of my heroes:

2006 at the Portugal meeting, and this year at the Baskerville Hall meeting!

My sentiments exactly although for me it became a parody of the definition of British summers (three fine days and a thunderstorm if you don't know:rofl:) I had four fabulous days and a breakdown (the bike, not me).

I'm not quite sure how I managed to spend four days there and not run across you though. Must be a reflection of how big an event its become and I have huge respect not only for Grant and Susan but also for everybody else "behind the scenes" who put in hours and hours of their own time to make it run smoothly.

Seasoned old stager that I am I ignored my wife's advice to check everything before I left because "I know what I'm doing" and arrived at Baskerville with a tent but no tent pegs. Anyone who saw me on Wednesday afternoon on hands and knees in the hedgerow might have wondered what was going on, especially as it was far too early for the bar, but this is what I was looking for:

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...pspm2r6wjx.jpg

I eventually found enough to keep the tent from falling over :

My wife hasn't stopped laughing yet! :(
