HU Curried Lamb meat (Meet)

HU CURRIED LAMB MEET.
TAKODA CAMPING KIRKBY STEPHEN, CUMBRIA. CA17 4AP.
FRI 25th-27th APRIL 2014
tel 017683 72587 or
Maria on 07794 754099 - Paul on 07711 882112

This is our very first HU meet and we as fellow travelers would like you all to come and see what this outstanding area has to offer.
Takoda Camping is located along the bank of the river Eden, just five minutes walk from the market town of Kirkby Stephen which offers shopping, fuel, restaurants, cafe's and a good selection of pubs.
We are very lucky to be geographically situated between the Lakes district, Yorkshire dales and the north Pennines which offer some of the best scenery and riding roads that the UK has to offer.

The "Curried Lamb meet" is going to be a laid back affair starting on Friday where everybody is welcome, overland 4x4, motorcycles and bicycles. We hope you will meet friends new and old around our bonfire, stay on the site or sample the pubs and food in Kirkby Stephen.
Saturday we will organize various ride outs and will be looking for a few volunteers with local knowledge to lead these, on and off road.
Following what will hopefully be a great experience riding the twisty Cumbrian roads and passes we have a well known traveler "Bernard Smith" who will host a wonderful presentation about "A blind woman, two wheels and 25,000 miles"

During the evening the "Curried Lamb" will come into it's own as we will be serving a selection of delicious curry to help the night along and will have another bonfire to relax and take it all in.

Sunday most people are packing up ready for work on the Monday but you are welcome to stay as long as you like.

The cost of the weekend is,
Camping £8 per person per night, includes free showers.
Breakfast sandwiches and hot drinks are available every morning from our camp reception/shop.
Free WiFi is available

Takoda is a small family run site with limited spaces and I would be grateful if you could express you intention of interest on this thread.

We look forward to meeting you,
Paul & Maria

Hi

A friend and I are happy to lead a days trail riding around the Yorkshire Dales .

Depending on numbers and experience we could split into 2 groups . One for those that have ridden off road before and another group for anyone who maybe wanting to try it for the first time or just have a leisurely days ride :) . Roads tyres will be OK if it's dry and if it as been wet the sloppy parts can be bypassed for those with road tyres.

Both ride outs will have plenty of photo stops and Tea and Dinner stops.

Our aim is to give everyone a pleasant days trail riding and all get back to the site ready for Paul and Maira's curry feast .

Hi Paul
I'll arrive mid-afternoon on Saturday, hopefully in time for Bernard's presentation, the curry and the intellectual chitchat that always occurs at such events :thumbup1:

Looking forward to it.

freewheel 27 Apr 2014 17:55

This was a super nice weekend and we enjoyed every minute of it! Good people, interesting and surprising presentations and the fooooood.... There was something for everybody; you could go out with the ride outs or walk into the village and have a look around. Good biking area with lots of bends and great views. Wonder woman Maria cooked a curry Lamb which in 9! different ways and had 7 angels to help serving the food.
Paul, Maria, Thanks very much for spoiling us rotten and put up this event and to everybody who wasn't there; this is to good to miss!
Andy and Maya.

Harry m 27 Apr 2014 19:48

Paul Holroyd 27 Apr 2014 19:59

After the Curried lamb meat !

We had a good turn out with great folks (as usual)for our Mini HU meet this weekend. The weather was fairly kind and we kicked the weekend off with a showing of Sjaak Lukassen's epic R1 extreme DVD. I was volunteered to go and fetch the fish and chips in the car before an impromptu but excellent presentation by our good friend "Road-to-Manchester" (Pete)

Saturday morning and after a breakfast butty and a brew the drizzle didn't put riders off for an off road route lead by Dazzer and a 120 mile bimble through the pennines lead by myself. Our first port of call was to Danny Taylors, Haggs Bank bunkhouse where the exquisite Cathy plied us with coffee and biscuits before heading off to Hartside for lunch.
We tackled the twisties down toward Penrith heading for Ullswater and Lowther castle before our next stop at the Orton chocolate factory, Ah! see you wish you had come now don't you!
A quick ride home and my wonderful Maria and her friends were busy cooking a staggering amount of curry dishes for our 50 or so guests. The sun was shining and so a swift change of plan moved our first presentation of the night to 8pm to allow people to enjoy the evening glow. Curry at 7pm with second and third helpings before Iain & Debbie the sidecar Vagabonds presented us with a fantastic joint effort photographic feast journeying through Georgia, Russia and Mongolia.
Following this we had Bernard Smith with "touching the world" a fantastic presentation which followed Bernard and his late beloved Cathy's trip around the world, a truly magnificent tale which more than touched the world!

In the meantime Andy (Freewheel) was stoking the bonfire.

Sunday morning, more Bacon butties and people were sadly leaving, Maria and I had a brilliant if not tiring weekend in the company of wonderful, entertaining and knowledgeable people, thank you all for coming and making this event a success. :thumbup1:

mrsgemini 27 Apr 2014 20:26

You all seem to have had a great weekend. Sorry Mike & I had to miss it all at the last minute. Hopefully next year.

Margaret

Debz 27 Apr 2014 20:36

Paul + Maria, thank you both so much for hosting a fab event! Next time I'll make sure I make it for both nights. The meal dished up on Saturday night was delicious too.

Great site and was absolutely thrilled to be treated to an aerial display by the parrots before we left - stunning!

As always, great to speak to so many friends - old and new.

Hope to see you all again soon.

Excellent weekend .

Thank you to all involved making it happen.

I was lucky to lead a enthusiastic group around the trails of the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday. The weather turned out very nice with only a short shower while we were having lunch in Leyburn.

Here are some photos of the group. No one was injured in the making of these photos and all bikes and riders returned to the camp site unscathed (thumbs)

Please tag your name to your photo. Thanks Dazzer

Big hugs and thanks to Paul and Maria - you certainly set a high standard for a mini-meet! Thoroughly enjoyed the talks by Pete, Iain & Debz and Bernard. I'm still suffering from the lack of sleep :)

Thank you also to Dazzer for leading the trail ride, helping me cross the river, taking photo's & basically being a great guide :)
