First time

Well, we're all paid up and rarin' to go to our first HU meeting. I've just read the events list and I can't wait! In fact, I've based our summer holiday around it!

My girlfriend, who is new to bikes, is a bit nervous of being the only one who isn't a much-traveled veteran biker. I've assured her there will be loads of people there just like her so not to worry. Err, there will be loads/some/one or two?? people just like her won't there? Or am I in trouble?

It's a very friendly, relaxed event with no posing [well, maybe those off-road ride-out bikers :thumbup1:] and loads of like-minded people exchanging knowledge and opinions. You'll both love it.

Tell her she'll be fine. I've no doubt there will be other non traveled people there but you won't spot them, they don't wear uniforms. :) Seriously though, she'll enjoy it and learn things about travelling on bikes. Last year we even learned how to cook and eat rabbits that we ran over on the road. ;)
I see you're travelling down from Edinburgh, my son and I are going from Falkirk so if you're looking for company for the trip down give us a shout. We'll be leaving early (8:00 ish) on Thursday.

I'm coming from Belfast for my first HU meeting and I definitely don't qualify as a much-travelled veteran biker - in fact parking a bike on grass will be a whole new experience for me!
My theory is that the less you know the more you can learn and if the meeting is a tenth as interesting as the forum it'll be great craic.
Come and introduce yourself if you have time - I should be easy to find beside the only honda deauville there (that well known RTW bike).

Hope you and your girlfriend have a great time

Drew

there are always newbies, I was certainly made to feel welcome as one before I became the 'veteran' that I am now???!?!?

What is the correct term for someone that has done enough overlanding to be totally bitten by the bug but not done enough to be a veteran.

Hopefully I will see you there (in an amazing repeat of last years meeting I have an unreliable Italian machine in pieces the week before)

Looks like I'm in the clear then!

Seriously, thanks to you all for the positive replies, she was quite touched.:thumbup1:
Looking forward to the w/end even more now(despite the forecast)!

Jim, cheers for the offer of company, but due to work, we won't be leaving 'till later.

Hope to see all of you there, we'll be on a 600 Transalp and I look, well, crusty! :mchappy:

Cheers.

Crusty.
