6th Northern Mini Meet

Hi Guys
Fancy one? We did one in Jan07 I recall. Was it in at Dent or Allenheads¿ (great this Spanish keyboard :cool4: ). Is Blakey letting bikers back?¡ Suggestions on location? Date? Between now and Easter, I´m around on 12/13Jan, 19/20Jan, 2/3Feb, 9/10Feb, 23/24Feb, 1/2Mar and 8/Mar.

Maybe we can make a plan.
cheers

Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge

Hi Chris
A damn good idea, I'd like to get on a weekend soon, missed all (most of the mini-meets)..
I have e-mailed the Lion at Blakey to ask if camping will be back on the menu for 2008. Will post their reply when I get it.
Not been to the Allenheads, but Dents great.
Was good to speak with you at the AQA exams meeting Nov.
See you,
Col

ElChico 30 Dec 2007 18:15

No go at Blakey Ridge

Hi Chris
bad news from the Lion Inn- here is the reply:

"Yes, sorry but the camping field is now permanently closed and will not be re-opened in the future. The only exception to this is for long distance hikers on the Coast to Coast or Lyke Wake Walks who may stay for 1 night in tents.

Regards
Paul Crossland
Manager
The Lion Inn"

So it's over to you,
Cheers for 2008, let's hope it's a better year.... cheaper fuel, empty roads, less tax.... we can always dream.
Col

Jake 30 Dec 2007 21:28

Hi Chris, Got to say Dent was not the most hospitable of places and Allenheads pub was ran by MR STRANGE, I am sure that a more hospitable place could be found. Not sure if I can get along but will keep an eye on this page to see what happens and when. Jake.

(I know of one or two places up here in Northumberland that would make a decent venue but it all depends what people want and where they want to be.)

Debz 31 Dec 2007 11:45

Hi Chris
What about Tan Hill? Food is good, beer is lovely, welcome is warm. There is room for camping, alternatively if folk don't want to camp there is the bunkhouse and rooms available. Can't do 23/24th Feb but whatever suits the majority of folk.

Iain & Debz

Jake 31 Dec 2007 19:38

Agree Tan Hill is superb biker friendly venue with a great location. Good one debz.

chris 2 Jan 2008 18:19

Have been to Tan Hill a couple of times. I like the atmosphere so much, I'm having my stag do there on 16Feb:thumbup1:. (un?)Fortunately not much chance of strippers getting up there in Mid Feb :nono:. Would be good to have a pre or post Stag Hubber meet there. Any one else keen? What dates can you do? Any other venue suggestions?
Chris

ElChico 3 Jan 2008 11:42

Tan Hill?

How about Sat 2nd or the 9th Feb? Should be really cold and miserable up there then...
I'm daft enough for it.
Cheers
Col

Fritz 3 Jan 2008 14:08

We may be interested based on dates, will watch thread. Heard that Lion Inn has new manager too and it's a bad change. With friends we've camped there each Nov for near 20 years and as of last Nov that is no more as people p*ssed off by new manager. Sounds like they've lost a lot of their market.

Another thought is Cropton - of the brewery fame. They have camping, bike friendly, it's near some off road areas and the beer is good. Near Pickering and North Yorkshire Moors.
Map and Directions

Tan Hill is a good call too - haven't camped there since change of hands and added luxuries though.

chris 4 Jan 2008 18:15

Cropton sounds interesting. Tan Hill is good, but as I'll be there in mid Feb already and as I'm always keen on checking out new places, it could be a goer. I'll call them next week to see what prices/availability they have. Anyone keen on a brewery tour? Anyone else interested: What dates can you do?
Chris

Debz 5 Jan 2008 15:51

Cropton

Cropton sounds good, brewery tour sounds good too, count us in please.

Cheers
Iain & Debz

Jake 5 Jan 2008 19:10

I will try and get - depends on some other stuff going on at the moment. Will watch what dates come up as favourite and see how I stand for getting down.

Brian E 5 Jan 2008 19:56

Feb the second is good for me i can do the weekend of the 9th but have to be away early cause i've got some trail riding on the sunday.
Copton is a real nice place lovely pub really good food and beer.
I will be keeping a eye on this thread and will make a effort to be there.

chris 7 Jan 2008 12:31

Cropton

Just gave Cropton a call. The lady I spoke to seemed very pleasant and bikes aren't a problem. They have a field for camping with no facilities, but it's free. The pub is 2 mins walk from the field. There's a pub: The New Inn, Cropton, North Yorkshire It's £40pp sharing B and B, £45 single. They do tours with advance notice at 11am and 2pm. Possible to do one at another time, by prior arrangement.

Dates: 2/3Feb seems the favourite of those who have replied. 9/10Feb seems ok too. 16/17Feb and 23/24Feb not good. Any comments/preference? Please advise soonish.
cheers
Chris

mustaphapint 7 Jan 2008 12:47

Sod's law. I can't make either of those dates. Those 2 and the last weekend in Jan are probably the only 3 weekends I can't make in the next 10 weeks or so.

Fritz 7 Jan 2008 17:21

Arrange whatever you folks can do - I can't commit as if there is a possibility of good (or in general eyes bad) weather in Scotland I'd be up there climbing.....if not, hopefully join you at Cropton, cheers, Fritz

ElChico 7 Jan 2008 19:31

Yes to Cropton

Hi Chris
I like the sound of Cropton, any of the dates are OK. Free camping sounds good too!
Cheers

My vote as above

Brian E 7 Jan 2008 21:07

I know Chris has done a fantastic job ringing the campsite field. but i have stayed in the pub garden in the past maybe that might be available especially if we are only a small number and doing the brewery tour and drinking in the bar. next thing is i don't have there number but i'm sure Chris might take this on.....

Debz 7 Jan 2008 22:06

Either of the dates are ok for us and we will be taking advantage of any free camping.

Cheers

Iain & Debz

Joe C90 7 Jan 2008 22:38

I wondered if the 'field' maybe was the area to rear of pubs land (sort of ex-quarry) that's were we have camped previously. Don't think there are likely to be too many folk for that area as Brian mentions.

Expect thick heads folks :-0

(sure Brian knows the area - off road - but great options nearby at Wykeham etc. If Brian can't make it, and I don't, Chris I can indicate to you some routes...legal of course!)

Brian E 8 Jan 2008 16:16

Saturday i thought i could do a easy trail ride out around 80-100 miles fish and chip dinner at Whitby cause that's where the best fish and chips are. then if it's nice :Beach: ice cream at Goathland cause it's the touristy thing to do. I'm going to do the trails in the 4x4 so everybody should manage who want's to come along. maybe sombody else want's to arrange a road trip out :scooter:so there is a option for people.

chris 9 Jan 2008 11:51

Hi guys
Just looking at numbers. We aren't going to have a big crowd, either way, but from the (lack of) feedback so far we only have a very exclusive group
me
Brian
Col
Debz and Ian
Jeff

Also: Fritz and Bev (possibly)
Brad (possibly)

Would other dates suit better? Possibly March? What about 1/2Mar or 8/9Mar? How are people for either of these weekends?

Chris

mustaphapint 9 Jan 2008 13:44

I can do either of first 2 weekends in March

Fritz 9 Jan 2008 15:26

Same availability for me as initially, if around we would love to atend;-)

Joe C90 9 Jan 2008 15:57

march would be much better for me please!

silver G 10 Jan 2008 12:03

Hi, just been reading this thread. I live in Dent so if you want any info just let me know. Hoping to be in Tunisia in March but not sure yet - If here might try to get along if welcome.

Jake 10 Jan 2008 15:49

Looks like my clutch is on its last legs, its been playing up for a month or so now but its decided to be almost non existent today real problem getting home - unless I get a decent break in the weather to get some work completed - then get payed for the work (Harder than getting a break in the weather). I might struggle to get along - hopefully I can get sorted before the do but will have to see how the money goes !. Jake.

MikeS 11 Jan 2008 03:21

Would love to join you again but I'm now in Melbourne suffering the current heatwave and looking for work.

Have a good one!

chris 14 Jan 2008 13:22

Cropton on 1/2 March

Ok, early March seems to be more popular. So let’s go for 1/2 March. I’ll give Cropton a call to book us in. If you don’t want to camp, please call the pub yourself to book your room.

We have:
Me
Harleyrider
AndyG
Iain and Debz
Roger
Brian
Brad/Jake : possible
Fritz and Bev: possible

Any others?

They do brewery tours at 11 and 2, or at other times by prior arrangement. Which is best? Maybe I should ask for something like 4 or 5; that way we can ride first.

Your ever obedient servant,
CB

ElChico 15 Jan 2008 19:38

Cropton yes count me in please

Please add Colin Campbell to the list. I'm itching to get the tent up and go for a ride!

Breakfast and Tour

Hi
Called and confirmed Fri 29th Feb, Sat 1st March for about 10 camping. The kitchen at the New Inn is open lunch and evenings, but the lady would like to know approx numbers for breakfast (kitchen needs to be open especially).

So who wants breakfast Sat (1/3) and Sun (2/3)?

With ref to a brewery tour, I suggested a special time of 4pm on Saturday. As long as somebody (an employee) is there, they'll show us around.

Your continuingly obedient serf.
Chris

Fritz 16 Jan 2008 12:41

Dear Surf (I assume your's was a mis-spelling)
If we are here, we'll be there, and will be after breakies both days (can we go as provisional?)
Paul would love to spend some time interrogating you and kicking tyres - sounds ideal.
Hope we can be there (Bev may come up on her own even if I'm away tae the hills).
Many thanks, FyB

chris 16 Jan 2008 13:54

Hi Fritz
There may be surfs (and smurfs), but I am a serf
as in:
1.a person in a condition of servitude, required to render services to a lord, commonly attached to the lord's land and transferred with it from one owner to another. 2.a slave.
:cool4:

Who is Paul?

Hi there
It's Little Miss Unreliable! Sorry for being useless. Just logged on for the first time in ages. Is there room for a little one still on the 1/2 March?
Got to get the bike fixed first but will try to do that next week. I feel the need to redeem myself. Willing to camp on Saturday night but it would be nice to see you.
Do you need confirmation by a certain date if there is still room?
Cheers

chris 26 Jan 2008 12:52

looking forward to the meet

I've just had my knee ACL restrung (2 screws and an old hamstring) so I'm still on crutches at the moment so two weeks so far without riding a bike and at least another four before I can throw a leg across either of my ktm’s.
all is not lost as I am going to get down to the meet in the sidecar so no green lanes for me, guess I will just have to prop the bar up and test all the beers just to make sure that they are all in good order.(someone got to do it)
Looking forward to seeing everyone
Ride safe

Hello, Serf/Smurf here,
I've been trawling back through the messages above and come up with this cunning list. I'll assume things are correct if i don't hear from you.

Pls advise if a ? should be a y or n, or if if the ys or ns are wrong. The pub would like to know breakfast numbers.

Camping is free, so if you don't turn up it doesn't matter. I'll try for a brewery tour for 4pm on Sat. Hopefully Brian/Fritz will be able to lead the way on a rideout of some sort.

See you early evening Friday. Vanessa should be arriving Saturday evening and may or may not be in time for the brewery tour, but it doesn't sound as though that will be a problem.
Paul

Brian E 26 Feb 2008 23:01

Well I propose to take a Trail ride out leaving the campsite at around 12:00 for a 4 or 5 hour run out. any one wanting to go to the brewery tour there will be a get out so you can get back in time.

Chris thank you for arranging the brewery tour but i won't be going along (only because I used to work in them).

Jake 27 Feb 2008 20:40

Remember Dent ! - Looks like this ones going to be another very windy one - Depending on how gusty the winds get (EG tuesdays winds were unrideable up here ) then I may not make it till Saturday. However If I can get an early set off on friday before the winds get too bad then I will be there early afternoon.
Hope to see you all there safely.

Yep, we should be down mid Friday afternoon. Hoping winds won't be any worse than last weekend on way to Thistle Rally, that was frightening even on 3 wheels!
Brian, unfortunately, we won't be joining you for the bumpy stuff.

See you all soon

Iain (patta) & Debz

Fritz 28 Feb 2008 10:30

If it helps, you can get to Cropton without too much 'exposure' if you take routes avoiding A170 (or Castleton - Kirby etc obviously). Best from Southerly direction (sorry Debz Ian Jake etc!) and the place itself is pretty sheltered...certainly nothing at all compared to say Blakey or Tan Hill.
Having collected Bev's new toy from Keighley via Blubberhouses etc on Tuesday night 'twas a bit exciting but the winds - oh my gawd, Michael Fish type statement coming...aren't forecast as strong as earlier in week, in fact no weather warning issued.
Once at Cropton there are nearby off road and tourist options so all would not be lost if was howling gales.
If you can get to Thirsk should be fine for rest of way, the A170 is fine unless it's extremely windy, and then the other routes may be blocked by fallen trees - highly, highly unlikely though to be honest. Appreciate it's the journey to get to N Yorks that may be more of a concern.
Be great to see everyone again ;-)
The wind after we've been in pub on Monkman's Slaughter for a few hours however may be more dangerous :-0
If anyone has concerns PM me your Tel No. and I can advise - Bev works that way and can give an active live forecast.

Fri a.m. - Oh dear oh dear, sorry Jake etc I may have cursed you - you may curse me later. I see a weather warning for Northumbria :-0 Hope you can leave there before it arrives. Me and my mouth

Fri p.m. Double b*gger - now weather warnings for today and tomorrow for all the bloody north

silver G 1 Mar 2008 10:28

Hope the weather is picking up for you folks - not bad at all in the west so good clear skies on the way:thumbup1: during the day, though you might need to retreat to the pub this evening.
