1st Midlands Micro meet up!!!!Sunday 26th October

Sunday 26th October for the first MIDLANDS MICRO MEET UP.(sorry for the late notice..) Cant really call it a meet as it is really just a ride and a lunch.. but hey it started here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ers-sign-37972 but to encourage more people I have started a new thread.

The plan in a nutshell… Meet, ride, lunch with lots of random conversations, ride , go home… :thumbup1:

So the plan in detail is a simple one, as the midlands is a large place I propose a two pronged attack.:scooter: The first part is that for whom ever wants to.. meet up at the Bassets Pole round-a-bout just off the A38 at 0930-1000h either in the pub or McHell across the lot). This is easy to get to from the most of the major routes, and once there starts to get nice..:Beach: (okay well maybe not sunny)...

Head off for an hour+ ride up to the Peaks District via some nice little A-roads (A515 type of thing). Ending up at The Old Smithy Cafe in Monyash (it is between Ashbourne and Buxton), Our own FlyingDoctor reports that they have a “great all day breakfast and nice ice creams too”. :thumbup1:Hopefully meet up with more of our northern brotheran and sisteran:clap:. Have lunch during which we have :detective:"very serious discussions":lol2::tt2: about bikes, trips, future trips, how one by one the penguins pilferedmy sanity:blushing:, anything really of little to no value, to any one but us.:smartass:

Then head in some direction for a bit to see some nice roads and nice sights (route to be discussed or argued or randomly chosen at the time). The latter is my preference? Any locals want to play tour guide?:helpsmilie:Then take the long road back. via anywhere you want.. it is hard to find a road that is not nice up there to head generally home, together or not what ever suits you at the time..
. :D

It will be a nice slowish ride, the speed will be controlled by the slowest among us (which as I will be two up is likely to be me) and with no dirt, no pressure and no fuss. All HUbbers are and all types of bikes are welcome.:mchappy::mchappy::mchappy::mchappy::mchap py::mchappy::mchappy:

Route looking good so far Xander.

:thumbup1:

Birdy 14 Oct 2008 07:59

Sounds like fun, I'm a big fan of the roads around there, and I like pubs, and food. Awesome.

Might have to leave the Cub at home for the day if I come down. It's all very well saying, 'the speed will be determined by the slowest of us,' but taking a Cub might be kicking the arse out of it! If I come I am afraid I will be Intruder mounted.

Joel

Tourider 14 Oct 2008 19:29

Sounds like a good start. If the weather's OK (yes, I am a fair-weather wimp) I'll see you at Basset's Pole before 10.

jaber 15 Oct 2008 21:49

Sounds good

Eyup, sounds good to me, I live up in t peaks and know some good roads and possibly a much better cafe the Qeens head cafe Bonsall and if I can pursuade a certain chap I know, to do half of his Derbyshire dribble you will be in for a raight treat:thumbup1:

(hows about it Mick)

Love and kisses on the bottom xxx

Hey Steve, Actually I have no Idea...

Except for Tourrider (who is weather dependant)
I dont know who is meeting me at the Bassets pole roundabout..
SO If every one could replace the ? with the location that they are planning on meeting us that would be most excellent. (for now we will stick to the 2 places i.e. Bassets pole and the old smithy cafe.. )

Me (Xander and Mrs.X) - Bassets pole.. On Black Africa Twin (maybe with either a big silver top box or small black plastic one..). I am tall she is short.. I will have a cup of coffee in hand (probably from McHell)... Of course you dont have to sign up it is just that if we dont know you are coming and your are late we cant wait for you ... :innocent: So the plan will be to leave as close to 10:00H as possible, so get there before 10 or let us know if you are definitely coming or print out the map... (maybe i should do that myself...:stupid:)

Tourrider - Bassets Pole (who is weather dependant)

Birdy - ?
MysteryB - Bassets Pole on a 1200GSA (Although on call)

Well it should only take an hour or so from bassets (but taking all things into acount e.g wet roads.. say 1130H to 1200H. See you there mate!!

trophydave 26 Oct 2008 09:44

Hi Xander, sorry I shall not be there today.I have just bought an old Z650 off a mate and cannot wait to get the spanners flying around.

Hooli 26 Oct 2008 18:37

well that was a good day, nice to meet everyone & so forth. somehow the back of the group ended up following the wrong bikes into buxton so we lost the rest of ya. went to someone's house for a cuppa & then i headed home the long way from there.

have to do it again some time.

EDIT: worked out on the way home why i couldnt quite settle on the bike today and why my judgement of speed/braking etc seemed off, bloody throttle grip was loose wasnt it? glued it back on again with superglue as the stuff i used last time didnt seem to work. so that should be that sorted.

petemak 26 Oct 2008 18:42

Hi Hooli and all

bodie 26 Oct 2008 21:20

hi ya all . well i had a great day after dithering around coz of the rain i decided to go and join in ,nice steady ride upto monyash and then a pretty good burger and chips ,getting to put a few names to faces /bikes ridden by who, now etc ,off we head to get petrol for our afternoon tour led by dave ( i think) but as we exit fourcourt we get a bit split up but we soon seem to catch up, with steve pointing us onto the correct road theres a nice little group following a 1200 gs and a suzuki with blue panniers "funny i dont remember seeing a susi before but oh well "we turn into buxton with the leader giving us the thumbs up when they pull over in town center it was two brothers (The wobbly bros)and no part of our group at all they were wondering why we were so intent on following them SORRY LADS
petemak suggested we go to there house for a cuppa as we were not likely to find others. Good cup of tea was enjoyed at bonsall and a nice friendly chat hooli and myself were last to leave and still managed to take a wrong turn straight away very nice very narrow twisty lane that was ,we soon found our bearings but still decieded on differing routes home with me going right and hooli left did u not have any faith in my navigation ?

nice to meet u all ROB

Xander 27 Oct 2008 16:44

Thanks!

G'day Everyone.
I just wanted to say thanks for a great turn out and a great day. Mrs. X and I thought that due to the rain that there would be only us. But the turn out was fantastic. I would definitely say that the 1st midlands micro meet was a complete success. I personally have to give a special thanks to Mick for taking us on a great tour on roads that i would have never been able to find on my own, it was a shame that we lost the rest of the pack (dont really understand what happened??), but our three bike intimate raid was excelent! It was great seeing some HUbbers out side of the big meets, enjoyed a good burger and I can suggest the egg and bacon roll. And hope these micro meets become a regular thing!

Thanks again to all that braved the weather and risked the disorganisation of anything i do (I blame the penguins)! I hope to see you soon at ... The attack of the spinach monster... The Midland Micro Meet 2 MUHAHAHHAAAAAAAA (hey it is almost halloween after all a little cheeziness is required!.

jaber 27 Oct 2008 21:32
