10th Mini-Meeting to be Great Fun

For 10 years serious travelers on motorcycles, bicycles and overland 4 x 4s have been vectoring in to Chiang Mai for the January Mini-Meeting. It's a great opportunity to meet fellow travelers as well as expats located in SE Asia and knowledgeable about their part of the world.

Friday is a smooze, swill and chill evening, a "Welcome Party" sponsored by local expats and The newly remodeled Riders Corner.

Saturday is the full Mini-Meeting.

Both afternoons and evenings offer attendees a chance to tire kick in the parking lot out front where they can see the types of travel bikes and equipment travelers are using (or renting) as they wander through SE Asia.

We look forward to seeing you there. Bring fellow travelers you meet along the way.

Jerry and Thor plus Lynn and his wife plan on attending. Everyone we've attended has been a blast. See you there.

Meeting planners have advised there are two (2) opening for a 45 minute presentation on Saturday evening. AV equipment is available for Power Point or slide show. Contact: globalmotorcycleadventures at yahoo.com if you wish to volunteer as a presenter and suggest your topic. Previous presentation have ranged from how to circle the world to tips and tricks for managing adventures in or through China and Myanmar.

Travel and Adventure Presentations

Adventurer, Author and Global Motorcycle Entertainer, Geoff Thomas from GB, has volunteered to be one of the two entertainers on Saturday night.

Thomas always has a wild and interesting presentation. Once he shared his tale of managing 1,000 kilometers in 24 hours on a Thai manufactured 125 cc Tiger motorcycle, his personal form of an Ironbutt 1,000 in 24 hours. His adventure included two flat tires, the second being caused by the first Thai tire changer leaving an adjusting bolt inside the tire between the tube and the tire after making the patch fix. Given the slow speed of the Tiger and other road traffic adventures along the way it was an amazing feat to do the 1,000 kilometers from the HU Meeting in Chiang Mai to his end point in Bangkok in less than 24 hours.

One (1) opening remains for a presenter on Saturday night. If anyone passing through or attending the Meeting has an interesting topic the 45 minute slot remains open.

Insiders at The Rider's Corner Restaurant have reminded attendees that since they expanded their restaurant space to include the former motorcycle sales shop next door, they now have far more space and new video screens in the expanded space.

The weekend looks to be another wild and adventurous exchange for serious and interested motorcycle travellers in SE Asia.

When Sun Chaser says ‘Volunteered’, what he really means is that he got me drunk on reasonably priced beer and took advantage of my relaxed state of mind. At this moment in time I don’t know what trash I’ll be talking about on Saturday evening, but I’ll try and make it as entertaining as I can. Looking forward to meeting friends, old and new, and enjoying the amazing hospitality of Philip, Som and the Team at Riders Corner.

Mini-Meeting

No formal sign-up required, although it lets the restaurant know how to space seating, etc. For the BBQ on Saturday night a reservation should be made at the tele. numbers in the first post (above).

This is a "Mini" meeting, so Friday is drop in, have a free beer (for the one designated hour) on the house and local supporters, see who is in town, trade tall tales and schmooze until closing.

Saturday is the official gathering starting with the BBQ. Both nights the restaurant is generally filled with travelers and locals interested in over landing in SE Asia, or around the world.

Show up early for a good seat, stay late for the biggest tall tales (like "I was the first to cross Myanmar on a 'big bike' wearing a speedo," or "My _______ motorbike has given me no problems at all," or.....)

It's always a fun two evenings and the location has long been a touch point for bamboo news in the Golden Triangle and SE Asia for travelers.

Enjoyed a really good weekend at the HU meeting at Riders Corner in Chiang Mai. Met some great people living in and travelling through Thailand and wish I could have stayed longer (Love the place). However, I got contact details for Jules, a young Australian riding a Keeway from Malaysia to Turkey, but as I tend to do, I lost them. If anybody knows his name on HU, or other meida, that would be great.

Many thanks to Phillip and Som and all those who helped at the event.

Thanks to all those who participated in the Thailand 2016 Travelers Mini-Meeting!

And especially thanks to Phil and Oz and the rest who made it all happen, and of course Dr. Gregory Frazier, "the instigator" who though he wasn't there - he was off riding in South America of all places instead of in Thailand! :)

Here's a few photos in from the Thailand Meeting!
