XR Acerbis Tank ID and possible sale

I recently bought a 22lt Acerbis tank off ebay. When I bought it I had a strong suspicion that it wouldn't fit my bike but went for it any way as it was such a good price. I doesn't appear to fit my bike. But I am now trying to identify which bike it does fit so that I can advertise it appropriately.

The seller said it came off a XR600 96/98 and the mounting can be relocated for "650", "600", "250". The only other markings are "1875/88" at the bottom of the tank.

The tank will clearly not fit my bike as the mountings are "reversed". Where my bike has the peg and rubber "cushion" on the frame and a U receptical on the inside of the tank; this tank has the pegs and cushion and I assume the matching bike has the "u" on the frame. Hope you understand that...I barely do!

So if you can identify it and it still doesn't fit my bike then you can have it for £70 plus postage to anywhere in the world.

Hiya,
can you put up a photo? It sounds like maybe a XT600 Yamaha tank, I have the XR600 tank from Acerbis 23lt (22ish) and the IMS xr250/400 tank 17 lt, mounted on the TTR yamaha, so if i can get a look at the mount on your tank i should be able to figurie it out, cheers al

ps this is the link to the Acerbis fuel range current, you might see a match..

Thanks I did find that link to Acerbis but unfortunately it doesn't have images of the mountings although the table is helpful in that my tank should be the same as the 400 which again leads me to believe that this tank is not right as it only covers 600, 650, 250. I tried fitting it last night and it definitely does not line up with any tank or engine mounts etc so am now confident that it wont work.

So anyone want a Acerbis 22lt tank off a XR600 96.

I will post photo this evening.

When i tried to get the 17lt tank on the ttr i had to change things a little, I placed the tabk on the frame, no seat, looked at the front triangle mount thingo (with the rubber bit in it), then worked out were it should go, undid one of the tank end bolts, rotated the triangle for the best angle, added a over size washer and then put the screw/bolt back in, this had a solid mount with the triangle off set, thus the rubber grommet was lined up and the Yamaha bolt went through into the frame smoothly, ran this for 6 months, dealers (x2) servced the bike with this mod all ok, also did mabye 20K+ all weather, conditions, tank bag on top, off road riding (hard) etc all ok.. I dont have photos, as i use the XR triangle mount for the 23 lt tank, however maybe give it a go on yours best of luck al (ps will try and find a photo of the mount set up now etc)

I've got tanks for my XR600 that use both fixing methods.
The Acerbis one uses the indent in the tank and the peg and rubber fixing on the bike via a couple of metal plates that bolt to the frame through the coil mounts and top engine bracket. Without the metal plates you've got two "female "ends.
The Clarke one has a triangular alloy bracket that bolts to the tank at one end and on the original tank mounting posts at the other.

As attached the mounting is nowhere near anything looking like a bolt. or am I missing something?

looks right to me but...

I have a 22L on my 650L and it looks the same as the one in the picture. It is marked that it fits 650/600/250 .The problem is that it came with a mount kit that bolts a hollow tube crosswise by the ign coil and uses the top bolt hole of the triangle frame/engine mount (only a little longer bolt is supplied). this tube engages in the indents on the tank underside. It also has two front tubes thzat go down to the shroud mounts on the frame square tube and a rear strap with spacers to mount the rear tank holes to the frame. It wouldn't be hard to fabricate if you have the correct items to copy from on hand. Btw I had to cut off the old pins on the frame (old tank mounts) so they won't puncture the tank if I laid it down hard on one side , kinda the point of no return.....

I sorted the problem.

My Japanese imported XR250 tank mountings are different to the mountings on standard "rest of world" XR's. My bike frame had pegs with rubber grommets protruding from the bike frame. On the inside of the tank were two U sharped protrusions to slip over the frame pegs. (hope that makes sense)

The acerbis tank has pegs fitted to the tank which bolt onto the frame as you have described.

I have welded two large diamater protrusions, with 8mm threads in the middle, onto the side of the frame to line up with the Acerbis pegs and the 22lt tank now fits perfectly.
