Transalp fuel tank removal ?
I remember seeing somewhere that someone had a quick and easy way to remove the tank on a transalp - I have started and can't progress past unscrewing side panels and tank bolt - can anyone assist please ?
Don't seem to be able to locate hoses that must be disconnected and manual instructions and diagrams hopeless ! Cheers |

Which bike are we talking about, 600 or 650? Phil |
It's a 650 and I'm stuck at the 'remove inner tank connections" stage.
Apparently Haynes say to remove fairing, but handbook doesn't, and diagrams very hard to follow. Any assistance much appreciated.:thumbup1: |
I am SO tempted to say "open tank and drop lit match in" cos that should remove the tank or at least mean you don't need to.
there were 4 pegs on the fairing on a friend's - 2 per side - that go through the tank grommets - make sure you spread the tank far enough to clear all 4 |
Hi, Tank removall is as follows;
Remove lower fairing fasteners (1 each side) Remove rear tank securing bolt Remove vertical screws attaching clock surround to fairing (Phillips head with)wellnuts. Prise the fairing away from the tank - there are two pegs (that go into rubber gromets) on each side, one upper, one lower - use a little red rubber grease to ease future re/asembly. Use (long nose) pliers to pinch & pull back spring clips for fuel hose & vacuum hose. Prise Hoses from fuel 'tap'. Disconnect the fuel gauge connector (blue, alongside wiring harness above l/h side panel (under seat)) and place it so as not to snag when removing tank. Ease up the rear of tank and pull off the two pipes (breather & overflow). Ease up the rear of the tank & (with one hand at the front & one at the rear) gently slide the tank rearwards. Hope that this helps, doesn't take too long once it's been done a time or two! Phil |
