Plenty of people have racked up over 70,000 miles on CRF250Ls without problems, the limiting factor appears to have been the rider's desire to go further rather than the bike, so I'd guess one could go 100,000 miles if treated lovingly.

Back in the mid 80s I met a taxi driver who shared a car with his brother, both drivers doing 12 hour shifts. On their 2 days off they employed another driver. They never switched the engine off at hand over, in fact, the only time the engine was turned off was for fuelling, servicing and repairs - over a million miles on the clock.
I ride my bike, pretty much every day, all year round, I don’t over load and don’t thrash it. Always do well over 100K miles (180K on the last one) before I even think about changing. I know it’s only a 300 but using this principle I can’t see why 100K isn’t possible on the CRF - it is a Honda after all :mchappy::D

that sounds like a good mileage ! ....
so why do so many bikers in the uk shy away from high mileage bikes ... its done 18,000 miles ........... not buying that !
In morocco i came across a bike with 250.000 kms and it sounded sweet ( may have lost a few horses over the years , but it was a 125 !
As you say dont thrash them and look after them !

Yes you’re right but personally I’d rather buy a bike that has been used regularly and looked after than an older low mileage bike that’s been sitting in a garage for months every winter letting water do it’s worst.

Steaph Jeavons rode 80 k miles I think on her RTW trip without any engine issues on a Crf250.

I have an aquaintance in Thailand who last time I heard from him had 120 k kms on his Crf without engine issues.

I have a Crf250L standing in Thailand and it has close to 50 k kms on the clock without any engine issues. But I have noticed if I ride it hard (like 110-115 kms/h over long stretches) it burns a littlebit of oil. Keep it at 90-95 kms/h and its fine and doesnt burn any oil.

I think the key is how hard you ride it. To my ear at 90-95 km/h the engine sounds perfect. Above 100 km/h it starts to sound a bit uncomfortable and a bit buzzy. The 300 cc can probably be ridden a tad faster.

Oil change intervals is 12 k kms - but I tend to change at around half that distance. And sometimes even before if Im about to ride a longer trip.

I'd say that not all garages are created equal, and something that's been in a nice dry garage can totally be brought back to as-new condition with a little love ... some leaky old lock-up though? Maybe not.

I think 12.000 km is a long time between oil changes . and as the crf 300 only has a small oil capacity . i tend to change every 2-3 thousand miles (aprox 4.000 kms )

I totally agree. If well maintained, you can keep this kind of bike a long, long time :scooter:
