Changing clocks from MPH to KPH
 

Hi
I am a happy new owner of a 2001 AT but as it is a UK bike its is all in miles. I want to change them over to KPH as I will be traveling alot around Europe and the rest of the world, The clock would't have to change really if I could change the trip computer to from miles to KM's I have pressed every combination of buttons I can think of (I dont have any insructions or bike papers) and can't get to to change, so does it? If so please tell me how I do this?? Or is there a source of European clocks some where on the web?

If you like I could ring the HUGE bike scrappers near me here in Birttany and see if they have French clocks for your bike, I'd guess that replacing the whole unit wouldn't be ridiculously difficult.

I dont have one myself (yet) but seems like the business! That on BTW is kph to mph.. So dont buy it.. but there must the the opposite!:thumbup1:

On my KTM I have to hold the mode button down for longer than 10 seconds with the ignition on.
Try something like that??

Hi guys thanks alot for your replys. I have seen those converters, they are a option, the only problem being that I will only be able to mesure KMs up to 120 (the 120mph mark). Idealy I would like to convert the computer to kms, being digital it should be easy?? I did read a post that had a now dead link and the guy mentioned that it might enyolve soldering does any one know about this?
Alex that is a very generious offer. I live in the Channel Islands and go over to france alot, if you have the address of the yard that would be great as I could call past myself.

I guess you are mainly concerned with speed limits, right?

I can think of several options:

A printed and laminated conversion table with the most common speeds.
Bicycle speedo.
If you have a GPS it will also indicate speed, you just have to set up the screen. More precise than any other option.

Not particularly cheap, but packed with features:

The vectors are cheaper, but I preferred the Vapors features.

You can switch from KPH to MPH, different wheel sizes, etc.

Very tidy... but not cheap.

All depends on how badly you need this conversion....

No, my main reason is for knowing my distance from my last fuel stop, ie how long can I go before I run out and naivgation. As most of the world is in kms it makes it alot easyer. The speed is not so much of a concern for me. I have actually just found a great thread on xrv.org which as a great link to a page telling you how to change the trip master computer to km and how to get the speed (only in mph) displayed also on the screen. I love how the internet is such a great source of info!

If reseting your speedo or tripmeter doesn't work, and you don't want a gps or navigator atached to your bike.
The cheapest and easiest way is finding a cheap bicycle trip computer. Most of them can display speeds above the 100km (or mph) and has several displaymodes (speed/tripcounter/daycounter/stopwatch etc).
You don't have to go for the more expensive ones (like topeak, trailtech or sigma) even the ones found at those wholesales (eurostores or dimestores) or other outlets can perfectly fit your needs for a few euro's/dollars/pounds.
Find a place to fit the magnet and sensor place the computer somewhere (on the dash?) calibrate and start touring.

If you google there is alot of info on the internet about using this kind of cycle-computer on other vehicles than bicylcles (they are even used as lowbudget triptometers on rallies).(for instance after a 2 minutes search)

Only drawback can be no backlight in the dark, but I'm sure those excists also (some are even wireless)
