Anyone know milage for S.American Tornado & Falcon?

Hey all,

Looking at buying a bike real soon, was almost set on a Tornado 250 XR but someone offered me a good deal on its bigger sister, the Falcon 400. The Falcon seems a bit more sturdy and will no doubt handle long stretches on the panamerican, but I am concerned about milage. If anyone has the stats on this, either official or from personal experiences, that would be great.

Saludos,
rtw

Thanks - just to double check that was that for the falcon? How does it handle in the dirt? As I intend on trying to stick to back roads as much as possible. Cheers!

Also if anyone has stats on Tornado for comparison that'd be great!

I'm not super familiar with either bike but owned both an XR250 and an XR400.
Same basic bikes. Both were dirt bikes and both used Carbs.

Do the Brazilian made Tornado and Falcon have fuel injection? or Carbs?
F.I. gives better fuel economy. I guess a 250 Tornado would give about 20% better fuel econ. than the 400cc Falcon.

If me, I'd for sure go with the Falcon. Not that much heavier, much better on highway cruising 50 to 60 mph, much better at very high altitude and better on rough dirt roads as the Falcon will ride better with a load attached.
(crank up rear pre load)

Good shopping! bier

Falcon

Of course k per liter depends on weight carried , altitude , type of road/terrains as I recall, my 2001 red Falcon weights in at 135 K. And with my 90 plus k and with loaded soft panniers a tent, sleeping bag and all other gear I get 20 per liter except when above 2,500 meters and then it drastically reduces depend ending on what gear I use to negotiate the mountain, the dirt, the stops and starts and idle time while Elisa rants at me ......

Elisa did 6 South American countries on a Tornado 250. Prior to upgrading to herFalcon She is rosa del desierto on the hubb. You might want to query her about the difference.

Nice!! I'm having such a hard time deciding between the two. I'm prefer minimalism and simplicity so naturally I was leaning towards the Tornado, so too for my budget in terms of price and gas, but the only thing I'm worried about is getting overtaken by big trucks and coaches/buses and I guess the Falcon can really slog it on a good road...

It is much more tham falcon.
would say about 27 to 30 km/l bags, wind and heavy hands on cable changes everything...
