Africa Twin nocking noise-Help
I am riding a 2000 Africa twin through South America and it has started making a nocking noise in the lowerer RPMs when I excelerate. This only happens when it is cool our or going over mountain passes. At the higher RPM or when it is hot out it runds like a top. I am not even sure the noise is coming from the engine but it is driving me crazy.
Please help |
how long is a piece of string!
could be....... ANY of the BELOW
Pinking (pinging) caused by weak mixture or timing out Pinking caused by altitude Bearings 'knock' when cold. Piston 'Slap' when cold. or any of a dozen other things...... Try not accelerating so hard, try to use a higher grade of fuel if you can. Martyn |
As you say you are not sure if its even coming from the engine you should check the bash plate. Is it a 'tinny' kind of sound.Maybe you have had a whack on the bash plate and its catching on the collector box down on the right side.Do you have engine crash bars?Could be coming into contact with the bash plate.

Still Looking for the noise
Thanks for all the good suggestions. Sorry it has taken so long to reply but I am having trouble logging on. I have not found the problem yet. It is not the bash plate I have had that problem before and am used to adjusting it with my boot. As for the other suggestions I am not sure where to begin. Recently it has been warm and no mountain passes so I haven“t heard the noise. Any suggestions of where to begin to eliminate some of the possibilities would be great.
Thanks Brad |
