Africa Twin digital trip meter gone weird

Hey all
Basically it starts working only after about 20 km's. Then it's counting the miles correctly (with my GPS).
The clock's fine, the speedo/odometer are fine.
Any thoughts?

Cheers

Sounds like your contacts are crudded up... (that is the technical term too:thumbup1:) or the actual contact is loose. and that it needs to get "hot" before the contact it made. I would pull it out (at both the top and bottom) and make sure that you scrape all the green oxide off the points then give it a good blast with WD40 or Di-electric silicone and see how that goes.. If that does not do it get a volt metre on there to and let us know what it is saying (when spinning the front wheel).

Thanks Xander

I have a similar problem so I'll keep your advice in mind. But this fault made me install a bicycle computer and it's far more useful than the Honda Tripmeter! I get average speed, current speed, time, and about 3 other similar functions.:thumbup1:

Ta very much fellas.
I'll try one and if it doesn't work I'll do the other. Excellent!

Hi Simon

Cheap and very easy to install. Better than worrying about fixing the @ tripmeter. I've been there too and said "Oh F*ck it", I can't be arsed. I assume you're with www.HondaTrailBikeForums, for huge info on @s.

If you install the bicycle computer, measure the diameter of your front wheel and apply that measurement to the chart provided in the instructions, to get the right setting. You may need to make a doobry,(of coathanger wire, or snipped-up beer can, eg) fixed to the bolt which fixes the mudguard to the fork legs, to bring the sensor near the spoke-mounted magnet.

You might find a problem with the @ spoke thickness in fitting the magnet - it is intended for thin-spoked bicycles. Each brand is different, so I can't say more. Bodge it. Use any other magnet if you mess it up. This explanation is more detailed than actually doing it.

I like the unconventional style of your blog and its good pics. I'm shocked, though, that you have with you a Sonny Barger T-shirt. His dodgy bikes and criminal culture are not attractive. You could instead have a T-shirt sporting an image, say, of a big-breasted woman, so pleasing on the eye, instead of ugly old Sonny, necessarily a turd burglar of the US "correction" system. So, why?... I think we should be told. Try Hunter S Thompson if you want a literate, progressive antihero. Or Dan Walsh, come to think of it. Minus the breasts of course.

Buen viaje

Look at the block connectors to the clocks and trip meter just behind the fairing screen. They can corrode from salt/rain spray and you may get a broken wire which is touching some of the time.

Cheers for the kind words old boy!
However I assume you're tweaking my dingleberries over the Barger t-shirt.
(which doesn't have a picture of him thank Gawd...).
While we're "at it", I've been a fan of HST since I was 15, and bought Dan's book the day it was released. In fact I wouldn't be here (in Chile) now if it wasn't for an article he wrote in 2003. I have drunk beer with him and he does, in fact, have lovely breasts.

All the best

Id have to agree, dirty contacts or perhaps the wheel sensors are off a bit?
