1990 Honda Transalp
Does Anyone Have Any Statistics On How Many Total Long Distance Travel Miles A Honda Transalp Can Last Before Major Rebuilt Of Engine And Transmission Has To Be Undertaken? One Would Assume That Normal Preventive Maintenance Would Be A Given And That Chain, Sprocket, Brakes Etc Would Be Looked After To Ensure Reliability During Long Road Trips?

I have read (I can not remember where) that not less than 200000km (if the bike was serviced on time)
I have a TA600 '94 has 60000km mileage and no problems. I have several friends who run a lot more - they do not have any problems with the bike |
At the Australian HUBB meeting this year there was a Swiss guy who had been travelling for many years on one and if I remember it had done about 250,000 without any serious problems. Also there was another guy there who had ridden an Transalp which he had bought as a $500 wreck with 100,000 on the clock and then rode it from Vladivostok to Ireland without issues. So they seem to be tough (though like you said it will still need looking after).

Hey guys it's Bryn on Tom's profile.
I'm on a 1994 XL 600V with 45,000 MILES on the clock ATM. In Tehran and heading India Malay direction. Engine is still really sound and very few issues all round. Apart from the obvious engine oil, chain oiling, air filter checks etc are there any specific things on the transalp that should be looked after? Happy riding, Bryn |
