FG Fuso Engine CPU - Uh oh...
 

Hi all,

I have a 2003 FG Fuso camper in Colorado, I have it in the shop right now, at the official Mitsubishi dealer. Last time I started it up, it would barely run, and smoked like crazy, no power, won't idle. I got it towed to the shop and they have told me that the CPU is faulty. It was running normally when I parked it 30 days before.

I've been informed that Mitubishi doesn't support this vehicle and engine any more, so a new CPU isn't available, and as of yet they haven't given me any options for getting it running again. They say that they haven't run out of hope, but it's been over a month now, with no progress.
Can anyone here give me any ideas on who could help, or how to get this thing fixed? Preferably without having to resort to a replacement engine?

Welcome to the HUBB :)

I would definitely try to beg or borrow a known working module from somewhere and prove that the module is faulty before you buy a new one, if finding one to try is too difficult, then these guys in South Carolina might be able to find a used unit you need:

If it works and you are planning to keep the Fuso for a while I would buy another spare as a minimum.

But the manufacturer says a new one is not avalible .. re read post #1.

So the only option is to find a second-hand one.

Or make your own .. DIY EFI is avalible DIYEFI.org ... and this may be the only option when these things do become unavailable. There is a lot of time involved in DIY though .. And if you go this route .. buy 2 of everything so you have a spare.

Jim .. you'll need to give more details if you want searches to occur elsewhere in the world for your specific CPU - what engine?

There are companies who will test and repair ecu's. That would be my suggestion. Even if you did find a second hand one if maybe a different variant.

As an aside it appears that more and more manufactures are not supporting vehicles over 10 years old now. Not such an issue for the mechanical bits but for electronic control modules not good. But that of course creates the demand for 3rd party support.

Id keep scouring ebay international sites for the Part # too and research which other markets your engine was sold in, chances are there will be some new ones sat on a parts shop shelf somewhere.

Most 'official' dealers are all linked up to the manufacture.. so they know who has what in stock and can shift parts around. If teh manufacture says there are no more that usually means there are none anywhere in their chains.

You can hope that a non official shop might have one... good luck. But I think the chances are better of finding one in a wreck.

Thanks @ RussG, do you have any suggestions of a company that does this?

I see SIA and AES with a Google search, and will find out if they work on this one, but would love to hear of someone who has actually used one of these companies.

These are the only people I know. They have a good reputation.

Sorry it's UK based.

I would suggest that there are some companies they will test and repair ecu's. just find that company near you and book a car towing service near me went there. they will solve all problems.
