Wild camping UK

Hi
My wife and I are planning a trip in the UK and Ireland may to August 2019.
Would like some tips and advice on wild camping over there.
We camp here in Australia and 2017 we tented 50% of our 10 weeks on the bike in the USA ans Canada.

I've wild camped reasonably often in the UK. It's not technically legal (except in Scotland) but I've never had a problem. Usual common sense is required; find a quiet spot, don't cause damage, don't make a mess, don't look like you are setting up for a multi day stop. Do this and passers by will either ignore you or just nod and say hello. Good luck and enjoy.

Its also ok on Dartmoor. I would also avoid having a fire. Draws too much attention.
My wild camping has been limited to hammocking in various woodland areas.
Arrive late and leave early.
Google maps (street view) and http://park4night.com/ can be useful

Per responses above, Scotland and Dartmoor are definitely OK, Snowdonia and the Lake District are fairly lax. More info: https://www.pitchup.com/wild-camping/

Scotland is a long way up from the south coast of England but if the weather is good and the midges not too severe, the reward is heaven on earth with utterly fabulous wild camping opportunities especially on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides.

Worth noting that the overall 'tone' of the UK is to treat you as a criminal if you do this, the country is heavily geared towards not allowing access to places where you could park etc - complete opposite to Oz.

So heed the notes of caution above etc ;-)

It was also strictly prohibited in many places over the last hot dry summer, due to a high risk of wild fires.

How’s the app iOverlander for the UK?

It’s generally up to date as it’s being updated constantly by travellers. But I ask as some regions appear to have more traveller input than others.
