Us passport ride through Belarus
 

Is is possible for a US passport holder to transit through Belarus? It looks like you can visit via air but not cross any borders. Any American with recent experience?

Into Russia?

You need Visa for belarus anyway if you cross with your own bike/car.

And most borders to Russia are not possible to foreigners because the computer System is not made up for this and then you enter Russia illegally.

But there is one border where it is possible, I just forgot the name of the border.

It is illegal to enter Russia from Belarus , only allowed if you do not need a visa for Russia or Belarus.
So, as a US citizen- as for European citizens-, you visit Belarus, then leave the country again to any country but Russia, for instance leave Belarus to Latvia, and then cross from Latvia directly into Russia

There is no problem to ride in Belarus, or cross the border between Latvia, Lithuania, Poland or Ukraine and Belarus.

The issue is that there is no border control (immigration) between Russia and Belarus, and in the last couple of years Russia has apparently made it illegal for foreigners to cross this border, as they will not pass through immigration. I don't understand why this has come into effect, as it used not to be an issue (I crossed twice without a problem in 2010). The migration card which one is given when entering Russia even has 'Russian Federation - Republic of Belarus' printed across the top. But aparently this is a new rule, and I would not risk trying to get around it.

As Klaus mentioned, there is one Belarus - Russia border which anyone (with a visa) can cross. It's actually a three-way border between Belarus, Ukraine and Russia and it is of course in the far south-east of Belarus (which I thought was the nicest part of the country) at the tri-point of the three countries. It's called Veselovka (in Russian) on the Belarussian side, and Novy Yurkovich on the Russian side.

And as previously said, you need a separate visa for Belarus unless you get visa-free transit.

My wife is from Belarus so I have been there many many times, TBH it doesn't have much going for it as a place to visit!

Just go a different route like through Ukraine (which is lovely, and very cheap) or another way and save the hassle.
