Ukraine to Romania via the delta of Danube

Hello all,

I'm currently in Odessa for a few days, and would like to go to Romania.
From what I've seen on internet not sure there is a ferry (for example Odessa to Constanta or Varna), and by the road it seems there is no alternative to go trough Moldavia (and I don't have a visa for this country).

What I would li'e if it's possible it to travel the Danube on ferry. But not sure it's doable...

Has anyone done this trip recently ? I would like to avoid making another 1000km to bypass Moldavia by the north ;)

Thanks !

Jil

There is a Moldova consulate in Odesa at Posmitnoho St. 2/2B, and a road alongside Danube to Reni. Moldova is only 1 km by this route. Closest ferry is at Galati, but there you are already in.

Have a look at Vylkove while you're down on the Ukrainian side of the delta, nice little place and quite unusual. This is a pretty marginal area however, no reason that there would be a ferry to Romania, as it's just a 1 km drive across Moldova, which both Romanians and Ukrainians are free to visit.

For the record I would recommend visiting Moldova, it's quite an enchanting place :) I wrote about it here, with photos:

I drove that way just a week ago.

- When you arrive from odessa at the Ukraine border, the urkainian border guard should give you the proper slip. So make sure you say ROMANIA! Without the small slip (talosh in Russian) problems start.

- you then drive some kind of transit thing and it goes quite quickly at the border.

- The drive from odessa is really a bit boring, the road quality is fine. It is much prettier in Moldova and it would be a shame to miss it.
