Turkey must see?
 

Hi all, Iam planning to leave 2 weeks from now to drive around europe and have got all countrys planned exept for Turkey as I have apsaloutly no idea what to see!
If anyone can recommend any places that are worth a viset feel free to let me know :)

Turkey is amazing, you will have an awesome time there!
The obvious stuff like the faith bridge and Aya Sofia and the Blue mosque in Istanbul is all worth a look but for me Turkeys best bits are the landscapes. Heres my list of top places in no special order.

Gallipoli Penninsula: Beautiful place and interesting 1st World War history.

Pammakule: Weird limestone pools, if they are full (sometimes they drain them) they are a really stunning and bizarre natural feature.

Amasya: Rock cut tombs in a mountain valley above the synonymous town. Nice relaxed place for a day off.

Dogubayazit: Specifically Ishak Pasha Palace perched high above the valley, is stunning. This is right out East near the Iran border the whole landscape round here is fantastic. Also Mt. Ararat (see below) is here which towers over surrounding hills. Well worth the effort of riding out here.

Lake Van: Mad turquoise Lake in South Eastern Anatolia, beautiful Mt. Nemrut and ancient artifacts on its shores.

Cappadocia: Possibly the jewel in Turkeys crown. Fantasticly weird land formations cut with ancient habitations and churches. You could spend days here just wandering around exploring the valleys. Absolutely stunning.

Anyway, thats my favourites. The food and accomodation in Turkey is generally pretty good and the people very welcoming and freindly. Especially out East where they see fewer tourists you can take an invitation to have a glass of tea as just that (and not an attempt to sell you a carpet) do yourself a favour and accept, the Turkish are funny, freindly and welcoming hosts.

which is my favourite place in all of Turkey. you can walk down the street to the library and on to teh docks of this ancient city from which Paul wrote his letter to the Ephesians. Jesus Mother Mary is reputed to have died nearby

Not to mention Çatal Höyük and the underground cities of Cappadocia
